Described is a novel spindle mounting assembly for use with a computer numeric controlled (CNC) machine, such as a drill tap machine. In one example an auto changer spindle mounting assembly includes a collar with a gas inlet. The collar defines a collar opening therethrough to create a passage between the first side of the collar with the second side of the collar. The collar further includes a passage in fluid communication between the gas inlet and through a nipple to the collar opening. The mounting assembly includes a manifold body with a gas outlet adapted to mate with the gas inlet of the collar, the manifold body defined a passage in fluid communications between, the gas outlet and a manifold body inlet. Also included is at least one extension bar, adapted to mechanically fasten to the manifold body to a computer controlled machine.

Methods and apparatus for delivering a cryogenic cutting fluid such as liquid nitrogen to a cutting tool in a rotatable cutting assembly, including a supply line for supplying cryogenic cutting fluid, a rotatable cutting assembly, and a rotary coupling, are provided. The rotatable cutting assembly includes at least one cryogenic cutting fluid input in a coupling region thereof to receive the cryogenic cutting fluid from the supply line, and at least one cryogenic cutting fluid delivery line. Each cryogenic cutting fluid delivery line is fluidly coupled to at least one input to receive cryogenic cutting fluid from the input, and terminates so as to be fluidly coupled to a cutting portion of said cutting tool to thereby deliver the cryogenic cutting fluid to that cutting portion. The coupling is rotatably attached to the coupling region of the rotatable cutting assembly, and fluidly links the supply line to the cutting assembly inputs so that the cryogenic cutting fluid is permitted to flow from the supply line to the cutting assembly without substantial leakage.

The invention provides a tool-holding fixture (10) for tools supplied with coolant or lubricant, especially lathe tools such as drilling or milling tools, with an internal channel system for supplying coolant or lubricant to the shank of the tool. To provide greater flexibility in the use of machine tools the claimed tool-holding fixture (10) is equipped with a coolant or lubricant reservoir (24) that is integrated in the tool-holding fixture, is preferably refillable and pressurizable, can be disconnected from a coolang or lubricant source when the tool is in operation and supplies the tool with an adjustable amount of coolant and lubricant by means of a metering device (38).

The non-through parts (9, 11, 15a, 15b) of the radial slits (7) and/or intermediate slits (14) open at the machine side and/or of the slits (8) open at the tool side in the tool shank (5) and in the collet or taper sleeve housing (4) are arranged in such a way that they form a coolant barrier.

A tool extender for machining machines consisting of an extender body (6) arranged to, in a known manner, be fixed in for instance a chuck (4) in a tool machine and provided with a holding means for a tool (15) in the form of a sort of hydraulic gripping bushing with an internal thin, unslotted sleeve (8), which is very precisely centered and fixed, specially welded in an axial hole (7) on the end of the extender, in such a way that a thin gap is created between the hole (7) of the extender and the gripping sleeve (8), which gap is filled with a plastic or elastic pressure medium (11) being arranged to be pressurized and depressurized with a suitable means (13), whereby a tool (15) with adjusted dimension is fastened in and detached from the extender.

The invention relates to an adapter for driven tools such as drilling or milling tools, for adapting an externally fed driven tool for use in a thru coolant system comprising: a) a cylindrical inner sleeve, b) an outer sleeve adapted to rotate relative to the inner sleeve, c) a delivery pipe to deliver coolant to the outer sleeve, and d) at least one coolant flow channel through the outer sleeve and through the inner sleeve to allow flow of coolant from the delivery pipe to the collet, and e) a seal at one end of the inner sleeve having an aperture to receive the cutting tool whereby to allow the blunt end of the tool to engage the collet, in use coolant can pass through the outer sleeve, through the inner sleeve into the collet, and to the cutting tool whilst said inner sleeve rotates with said machine output spindle and the outer sleeve remains static.

A rotating cutting tool is selectively biasable in the radial direction based on the angular orientation of the cutting blade, which may be used to create a non-axis symmetric feature in a bore. The radial position of the cutting blade may be controlled by selectively pressurized fluid whose pressure is varied based on the angular orientation of the tool. A plurality of vents may be selectively covered and uncovered to vent pressurized fluid to vary the pressure thereof.
