    摘要: A horizontal vacuum extrusion line includes a fixed bulkhead (23), a die (24) inside the bulkhead, a telescoping vacuum chamber section (27) and a fixed chamber section (28, 29). A dam (33) in the fixed section forms a pond (72) for immersion cooling of the extrudate. A truss (35) extends from the dam to the bulkhead supporting, shaping and calibration equipment and extends through the telescoping section. Fluid pressurizable seals at each end of the telescoping section are operable after the telescoping section is closed against the bulkhead and the telescoping and fixed sections are locked together. The telescoping section provides a more compact line and easier access to the complex equipment downstream of the die. The extrudate from the die passes down into the pond (72) and then through an orifice (74) in a hood (75) projecting from the chamber into a lower level portion of the pond (78) exposed to atmosphere. The hood also includes a tractor drive (88) to push the extrudate through the underwater orifice. The hood and its contents are accessible through the atmospheric pond. A tractor haul-off and the tractor drive in the hood are the only extrudate drives between the calibration equipment and atmosphere. The higher level of the pond (72) within the chamber downstream of the dam is controlled by a valve in turn controlling the output of a pump. The valve control senses the pond level and operates independently of the vacuum controls.

The first section (44) sealing against the second section (46) and the fixed section (24) and telescoping over the fixed section to form a gap (68) with the second section (46) being movable within the limits of the gap (68). The second section (46) also seals against the large diameter fixed bulkhead (16). In this manner the downstream equipment (62, 63, 64) can be fully exposed by movement of one or both movable sections (44, 46), and adequate volume and spatial working environment is provided for large through-put.

    摘要: Disclosed is an apparatus and a corresponding method for producing a continuous foamed extrudate product in which the extrusion and initial expansion of the foamed extrudate is conducted within a chamber under a partial vacuum. The foamed extrudate (110) is then removed from the chamber (102) through an orifice (106) submerged within a liquid baffle (108a, 108b). The dimensions of the foamed extrudate are monitored as it approaches the orifice and, if necessary, the effective sizing of the orifice is adjusted through the movement of a pair of side gates (124) and a single vertical gate (132) arranged external the orifice to match opening to the foamed extrudate and impede the flow of liquid into the chamber through the orifice.

    摘要: An extruder (13) projects through a bulkhead (10) adapted to form part of a vacuum chamber (11), and a die (14) is mounted on the end of the extruder within the vacuum chamber. The extruder projects through a gland seal (40) which is formed in a sleeve surrounding the extruder. The seal (40) includes a plurality of seal rings surrounding the extruder (13) and packed in the sleeve and held in place in a preferred form by a yieldable retainer. A shaper (20) is positioned down stream of the die (14) and is clamped (36) to the upstream end of the die (14). The shaper (20) is mounted on tracks (29) on a girder extending from the bulkhead (10) clear of its periphery. The apparatus permits congruent axial movement of the extruder (13), die (14) and shaper (20) with respect to the bulkhead (10).
