An injection molding system including a valve operated shooting pot and methods of use are disclosed. The shooting pot may have an inlet and an outlet and a valve may be control flow through both the inlet and the outlet. The valve may be selectively movable between a first position and a second position. The valve may block flow through the inlet and permit flow through the outlet in the first position, and permit flow through the inlet and block flow through the outlet in the second position.

The present invention relates to a system for plugging a mould (2) for injection moulding of foamed plastic material, particularly EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate), comprising a guillotine device, in correspondence of the mould (2) injection port (3), said device being comprised of two hemi-guillotines (4, 5), laterally movable along a plane substantially perpendicular with respect to the advancement direction of injector (1) toward the mould (2) between a closed position and an open position, lateral movement of said hemi-guillotines (4, 5) being obtained by interaction with said injector (1) along its run toward the mould (2), means (6, 7) opposing against said lateral movement being provided, maintaining said hemi-guillotines (4, 5) in a normally closed position.

A valve gating apparatus for injection molding including at least one shutter (12) disposed between the gate and the cavity melt channel into a mold cavity (8). The shutter (12) is removably fastened to a rail member (11). When the rail member (11) is moved laterally, the shutter (12) moves between a closed position wherein flow of melt from the nozzle (1) into the cavity (8) is inhibited, and an open position wherein flow of melt into the cavity (8) is unimpeded by the shutter (12).

A system for injection moulding of large plastics components in a single shot comprises an extruder and an accumulator fed from the extruder. The accumulator leads into the mould (14) via a mould valve (12) operative, when closed, to close the mould cavity substantially at the mould surface and also to close an outlet (20a) from the accumulator. The valve passage of the mould valve is of relatively large cross section, typically several centimetres or more which facilitates injection at relatively low pressures and also facilitates passage of stones and other particulate matter which may be present if the extrudate is composed of post-consumer recycled plastics.

By using a slider (5), which separates the sprue from the cavity (4) and subsequently follows the expansion stroke for decompressing the liquid plastic, sprueless components having a completely intact decorative surface can be produced.
