摘要: An ultrasonic welding system includes an ultrasonic welding stack (10) mounted for linear movement and for applying a controlled force, speed, or a combination of force and speed to a first workpiece to press the first workpiece against a second workpiece to which the first workpiece is to be joined, and an electrically powered linear actuator (11) coupled to the ultrasonic welding stack (10) for moving the stack while applying a controlled force, speed, or a combination of force and speed to said stack, the actuator including an electrical servo motor producing rotational mechanical motion and an integrated converter for converting the rotational motion into linear motion. In one specific implementation, a controller is coupled to the linear actuator for controlling the force applied by said actuator (11) to the ultrasonic welding stack (10), and a sensor is coupled to the servo motor for producing a signal related to the torque produced by the servo motor and supplying that signal to the controller.

摘要: This invention pertains to methods and apparatus for use in constructing a garment including a stretched elastic. Specifically, the invention contemplates incorporating stretched elastic (112) into a continuous web (121), including one or more segments which exert retractive forces in directions counterproductive to the function of either the web, the garment, or both, and nullifying that portion of the stretched elastic which would be counterproductive. The elastics may be cut with a cutter (154) at appropriate loci. The stretch may be intermittently reduced or eliminated on one or more selected ones of the elastics as the elastics are incorporated into the web (121). A special coating may be used on the processing rolls (102, 156, 158, 168) to maintain the width dimension of the web at loci disposed after incorporation of elastic (112) stretched across the transverse dimension of the web (121). Transverse bonds may be formed on the web using a rotary carrying drum (168), and energy application devices which rotate with the drum (168), to increase bond forming time.

摘要: The invention relates to a bonding method, comprising delivering a web comprising selected materials to be bonded in a predetermined pattern through a nip region between a pattern roller and an anvil roller to form a bonded web. The method involves using an anvil roller having a first diameter (DA) and a pattern roller having a second diameter (DP), which pattern roller is provided with raised surface elements arranged in a predetermined pattern. The anvil and pattern rollers have an equivalent radius (Re) of less than or equal to 40 mm and causes a compressive mechanical deformation in the nip between the anvil and pattern rollers by means of said raised surface elements to induce an internal heating of the web materials. The compression of the web materials are performed at a deformation rate sufficient to cause a local temperature increase within the deformed materials of the web material between the raised surface elements and the anvil roller, causing bonding between the web materials.

摘要: A sealing jaw assembly has a capacitor (162) mounted thereon and a sealing jaw (130) including sealing inductor formed from Litz wire. Thus, the sealing jaw assembly includes the tank circuit for the sealing jaw. The sealing jaw assembly is mounted on a sealing jaw chassis (172) which, in turn, is mounted on a carriage arranged to move around a track. The sealing jaw employs an air gap transformer which includes a primary transformer winding mounted on a fixed surface and a secondary transformer winding (174) mounted on the sealing jaw chassis (172). As the sealing jaw carriage moves around the track, the secondary transformer winding (174) comes into proximity with the primary transformer winding, whereupon a current is induced in the sealing inductor of the sealing jaw.
