Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for generating an image around a vehicle. The apparatus for generating an image around a vehicle according to the present invention comprises: a bird's-eye view image generation unit for generating a bird's-eye view image by converting a photographed image generated from a camera unit located in a vehicle for photographing surroundings of the vehicle into data of a floor coordinate system projected on the viewing point of the camera unit; a moved area bird's-eye view image generation unit for extracting an area to which the vehicle has moved, after a previous bird's-eye view image is generated by the bird's-eye view image generation unit, and generating a moved area bird's-eye view image corresponding to the bird's-eye view for the moved area; a composite bird's-eye view image generation unit for generating a composite bird's-eye view image by combining the moved area bird's-eye view image corresponding to the previous image and a post bird's-eye view image corresponding to a current image photographed and generated after the previous bird's-eye view image is generated; and a composite bird's-eye view image correction unit for correcting the image to generate a corrected composite bird's-eye view image in order to distinguish between the post bird's-eye view image corresponding to the current image and the moved area bird's-eye view image corresponding to the previous image.

When employing a multi-node computing architecture for commercial articulated vehicles to generate a composite surround view of the vehicle, each processing node is associated with a vehicle segment. Each node has its own processor, memory and sensors. A master-slave relationship exists in the architecture. The segment processors collect, format, manage and package their local information. Communication between nodes is controlled by the master node, which can limit, adjust, subsample and alter the information and information flow from the slave nodes. The slave nodes can be freely recombined, using a pre-established communication standard or a format agreed upon at combination time.

A communication device stores and relays information, such as vehicle identification number, license plate number, and drivers license information of the impacting object to an emergency department. A processor and a SIM card store and identify information about each vehicle.

The graphic overlays comprises a plurality of graphic overlay segments. The graphic overlay segments convey three dimensional information to a person viewing the displayed images and the graphic overlays. The imaging system may adjust at least one of a color, an intensity and a rate of flashing of at least one of the plurality of graphic overlay segments in response to an object being detected rearward of the vehicle and within a distance threshold.
