The present invention provides compositions and methods involving the use of a carboxylate graft polymer having high molecular weight and low ratio of acid-to-polyoxyalkylene groups. Such clay-mitigation is particularly useful for treating clay and clay-bearing aggregates, particularly those aggregates used for construction purposes. The present invention minimizes the need to wash the aggregates, thus preserving fine aggregates ("fines") content in construction materials, and thereby beneficiating the performance and/or properties of construction materials containing the clay-bearing aggregates.

In particular, this invention relates to water-swellable material with an improved absorbent capacity/ permeability balance. This invention also relates to a water-swellable material, comprising water-swellable polymers and elastomeric polymers, said material being typically in the form of parti- cles, which comprise a core of water-swellable polymer (s) and a shell of said elastomeric polymer(s), whereby the water-swellable material is such that it can withstand deformation due to external pressure. The invention also relates to a specific process of making the specific water-swellable material of the invention.

The present invention relates to liquid radiation-curing compositions having flexible and elastic material properties in the cured state, consisting of the following components: a) from 5.0 to 99.0% by weight of a di- or polyfunctional polyether (meth)- acrylate compound having a molecular weight of more than 1000 g/mol; b) from 1.00 to 90.0% by weight of a mono-, di- or polyfunctional radiation- curing (meth)acrylate compound having a molecular weight of less than 1000 g/mol as a reactive component or reactive thinner or cross-linking agent for the formation of polymer networks; c) from 0.05 to 10.0% by weight of a free-radical forming photoinitiator; d) from 0.001 to 5.0% by weight of further components; with the proviso that the sum of components a) to d) amounts to 100% by weight.
