A process for producing a class of polyarylenes having p-bis- (chlorodifluoromethyl) benzene or P-bis(bromodifluoromethyl) benzene as a comonomer. The P-bis-(chlorodifluoromethyl) benzene or the p- bis(bromodifluoromethyl) benzene act as precursors in a polycondensation reaction with a difunctional monomer.

Polyarylene sulfides react with disulfides containing reactive functional groups, typically at temperatures within the range of about 225-375°C, yielding reactively capped polyarylene sulfides. The preferred reactive functional groups are amino groups and carboxy groups and functional derivatives thereof.

A polyphenylenesulfide composition contains an amino functional polyphenylenesulfide resin and an olefin copolymer. The composition exhibits enhanced levels of physical properties. The compositions are useful for making molded articles.

Abstract:
Methods of vulcanization using a high content sulfur polymer, instead of elemental sulfur, have been developed. These high sulfur content polymers are referred to as Chalcogenide Hybrid Inorganic/Organic Polymers (CHIP) materials and have good polymer compatibility in that they are soluble in a number of polymers. Furthermore, CHIP materials may have weaker bonds than the S-S bonds of elemental sulfur and thus provide for a higher crosslinking efficiency vulcanization.
