Abstract:
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a novel copolymer: poly [(3,4-dihydroxymandelic acid)-co-(lactic acid)]. This novel copolymer can be produced from renewable feedstocks, possesses tunable degradation, and can achieve adhesion strengths rivaling the performance of existing glues and adhesives. In one aspect, a polymer is presented. The polymer includes poly[(3,4- dihydroxymandelic acid)-co-(lactic acid)]. The polymer can be an adhesive. The adhesive is configured to have tunable degradation. The polymer is derived from renewable resources. The renewable resources can include any one of or a combination of starch, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, chitin, polyphenols, poly (isoprene), suberin, polyterpenes, polyterpenoids, polyhydroxyalkanoates, rosin-based polymers, triglyceride-based polymers, alginates, and/or proteins.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to new aqueous binder compositions comprising an aqueous curable binder composition comprising starting materials required for forming a thermoset resin upon curing and a matrix polymer, wherein the starting materials required for forming a thermoset resin upon curing comprise (i) a polyhydroxy component and a polycarboxylic acid component, or an anhydride, ester or salt derivative thereof and/or reaction product thereof, or (ii) a carbohydrate component and a nitrogen containing component and/or a reaction product thereof.
Abstract:
A tracking tag for aquatic animals may detect the occurrence of a predation event. The tag may include a pH sensitive material that degrades in the environment of an animal's gut. The degradation of the pH sensitive material causes a change in a detectable characteristic of the tag, which allows the tag to detect the predation event and adjust its operation accordingly.
Abstract:
Abstract:
The present invention concerns methods of manufacturing of adhesives comprising cross-linking first and second molecules each of which has at least one group selected from the group of hydroxy aromatic, dihydroxy aromatic, hydroxy phenone and amino, the first molecule being linked to the second molecule via at least one quinone, together with adhesives produced according to the method. Also provided is the use of same molecules in a method of manufacture of an adhesive. The invention further provides a method of manufacturing thermostably bound solids, together with the use of gelatin, soya and casein in a method of manufacture of thermostably bound solids.
