A system and process for selectively separating H 2 S from a gas mixture which also comprises CO 2 is disclosed. A water recycle stream is fed to the absorber in order to create a higher concentration absorbent above the recycle feed and having a greater H 2 S selectivity at lower acid gas loadings, and a more dilute absorbent below the recycle feed and having a greater H 2 S selectivity at higher acid gas loadings. Also disclosed is a system and process for selectively separating H 2 S by utilizing two different absorbents, one absorbent for the upper section of the absorber, tailored to have a greater H 2 S selectivity at lower acid gas loadings, and a second absorbent for the lower section of the absorber, tailored to have a greater H 2 S selectivity at higher acid gas loadings.

A method of producing fuel from CO 2 comprising introducing natural gas, steam, and recovered CO 2 to a reformer to produce unshifted syngas characterized by a molar ratio of hydrogen to carbon monoxide of from about 1.7:1 to about 2.5:1; introducing the unshifted syngas to a water gas shift unit to produce a shifted syngas, wherein an amount of CO 2 in the shifted syngas is greater than in the unshifted syngas; separating the CO 2 from the shifted syngas to produce recycle CO 2 and a hydrogen-enriched syngas; recycling the recycle CO 2 to the reformer; introducing the unshifted syngas to a Fischer-Tropsch (FT) unit to produce an FT product, FT water, and FT tail gas, wherein the FT product comprises FT liquids and FT wax; and separating the FT liquids from the FT product to produce a fuel.

A sulfidic complexing agent is disclosed that includes a suspension or a solution formed by a reaction between a water-soluble metal compound and a water-soluble sulfidic compound. The sulfidic complexing agent has a pH of from about 5 to about 11 and a molar ratio of metal to sulfur of from about 0.1 to about 1,000. The sulfidic complexing agent is useful for removing elemental mercury from a hydrocarbon fluid by contacting the hydrocarbon fluid with the sulfidic complexing agent. The molar ratio of sulfur in the sulfidic complexing agent to mercury in the hydrocarbon fluid is from about 50 to about 2,500. Also disclosed is a method for concurrently transporting and removing a trace amount of volatile mercury in a CO 2 -containing natural gas stream extracted from a subterranean formation. The natural gas stream is transported in a pipeline into which the sulfidic complexing agent is injected. Also disclosed is a method for capturing gas phase elemental mercury from a gas stream in the overhead section of a crude oil distillation unit by contacting the gas stream with the sulfidic complexing agent in the overhead section of the distillation unit to form a treated gas stream.

The processes utilizing an existing processes stream that has a temperature below the hydrate formation temperature of the feed stream. The existing stream may be a residue stream from the membrane separation unit which is heat exchanged with a cleaned stream from the guard bed zone. The cooled clean stream may then be used to cool the wet feed stream.
