The present invention concerns cDNAs for making attenuated, infectious Newcastle disease virus (NDV). Another aspect of the invention relates to methods of making the cDNAs. Another aspect of the invention is a vector containing the cDNA optionally linked to an operable promoter. Within the scope of the invention are vaccines comprising the attenuated, infectious NDV. Also disclosed are methods of making the vaccines and methods of using the vaccines to prevent or treat Newcastle disease in an avian host. The present invention also concerns the nucleotide sequences of the entire genome of NDV, the leading region, the trailing region, and the NP region, as well as proteins encoded by these nucleotide sequences.

The invention refers to a recombinant oncolytic RNA Newcastle Disease Virus for the treatment of a proliferative disease, comprising at least one transgene coding for an avian cytokine, wherein the recombinant oncolytic RNA Newcastle Disease Virus is obtainable from a velogenic or mesogenic oncolytic RNA Newcastle Disease Virus. Virus-mediated expression of the cytokine in the natural host cells leads to a reduced pathogenicity of the virus for avian species. Furthermore the virus genome can encode binding proteins, prodrug-converting enzymes or/and proteases. The selective expression of these molecules in virus-infected tumor cells increases the anti-tumor effect of the virus.

The present invention discloses recombinant Newcastle Disease LaSota attenuated vaccine strain expressing VP2 gene of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV). More specifically, recombinant Newcastle Disease LaSota attenuated vaccine strain is rLasota-VP2. The present invention also discloses a method for producing the recombinant Newcastle Disease LaSota attenuated vaccine strain and its use in the preparation of vaccine for the prevention of the diseases caused by Newcastle Disease virus(NDV) and IBDV.
