Abstract:
The invention relates to a mixture, comprising (A) 10 to 90 wt. % of at least one C6 to C18 alkyl ester, or C5 to C8 cycloalkyl ester of 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylic acid and (B) 90 to 10 wt. % of at least one further compound, with at least one UV absorption maximum in the range 280 to 450 nm and structurally different from compound (A). Said mixture is suitable for the protection of human skin from damaging UV radiation and for the protection of coloured textile materials from colour fading.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for continuously brightening or dying synthetic fibers or cellulosic fibers by bringing an optical brightening agent or a dye and a fiber preparation agent into contact with the fibers to be brightened or dyed, and by subsequently heating these fibers to a temperature of at least 100 DEG C.
Abstract:
The present invention provides new compounds having formula (1), in which X is O or, preferably, NH; M is hydrogen, an alkali metal atom, ammonium or a cation formed from an amine; each R1, independently, is an aminoacid residue from which a hydrogen atom on the amino group has been removed; n is 1 or 2; and each R2, independently, is hydrogen, C1-C3alkyl, halogen, cyano, COOR in which R is hydrogen or C1-C3alkyl, CONH-R in which R has its previous significance, SO2NH-R in which R has its previous significance, NH-COR in which R has its previous significance, SO3M in which M has its previous significance or, when n is 1, R2 can also be CO-R3 in which R3 is C1-C3alkyl or phenyl; provided that those compounds are excluded in which a) X is NH, n is 1 and R2 is SO3M in which M has its previous significance; or b) X is NH, n is 2 and one R2 is SO3M in which M has its previous significance, and the other R2 is hydrogen, methyl or halogen; or c) X is NH, n is 1, R1 is glycine and R2 is H or CO2H; or d) X is NH, n is 2, each R2 is SO3M in which M has its previous significance and the SO3M groups are in 2,5-positions in the phenyl ring and R1 is D,L-alanine, L-valine, L-leucine; L-isoleucine, L-threonine, L-aspartic acid, L-glutamic acid, L-phenylalanine, L-proline, D,L-methionine or glycine. Most of the new class of 4,4'-diaminostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid compounds are useful as fluorescent whitening agents, especially for paper.
Abstract:
A method of enhancing a fabric article includes drying the fabric article in a fabric article drying appliance and applying a benefit composition as a spray to the fabric article in the fabric article drying appliance. The benefit composition includes an agent for enhancing the whiteness and/or brightness of the fabric article.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a liquid bleaching composition comprising a hypohalite bleach, a trimethoxy benzoic acid or a salt thereof and a compound selected from the group consisting of bleach-unstable brighteners, and bleach-unstable coloring-agents and mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
Methods for improving the brightness and durable press properties of fabric comprise treating the fabric with an aqueous solution comprising formaldehyde, catalyst for crosslinking the formaldehyde with natural fibers in the fabric, and silicone elastomer or precursor thereof, and heating the treated fabric to react the formaldehyde with natural fibers in the fabric. Methods for improving the brightness and shrinkage resistance properties of fabric comprise treating the fabric with an aqueous solution comprising formaldehyde, catalyst for crosslinking the formaldehyde with natural fibers in the fabric, and silicone elastomer or precursor thereof, and heating the treated fabric to react the formaldehyde with natural fibers in the fabric. Cellulose fabric which has a crosslinked formaldehyde durable press treatment and has been subjected to laundering with a brightener?containing detergent exhibits enhanced brightness after the laundering. Cellulose fabrics having a crosslinked formaldehyde treatment exhibit enhanced brightness after home laundering.
Abstract:
A fluorescent whitening agent comprising a mixture of compounds of formulae (Ia), (Ib) and (Ic), in which the -SO3R groups are in the meta and/or para position, and wherein R and M, independently of each other are H, Na, Li, K, Ca, Mg, ammonium, or ammonium that is mono-, di-, tri- or tetra-substituted by C1-C4alkyl, C1-C4-hydroxyalkyl or a mixture thereof, a process for its preparation and its use to brighten paper and especially textile materials.
Abstract:
Aqueous dispersions (U) containing: (A) a UV-light-absorbing textile treatment agent, (B) a dispersant system and (C) a carboxyl-containing cross-linked copolymer and optionally (D) at least one formulation additive, are useful for the corresponding UV-active finishing of textile material, in particular textile material which can be dyed with disperse dyes or optically brightened with disperse brighteners, especially for treating cheeses with liquors comprising disperse dyes and UV absorbers or liquors comprising disperse brighteners, without fear of troublesome pressure build-up or dye or brightener deposits.
Abstract:
According to the inventive method for washing textiles, optical brighteners are added to the detergent solution separately from the main quantity of active washing substances. The brighteners are added in the form of an aqueous liquid preparation, said preparation containing at least one brightener from the class of dibenzofuranylbiphenyls and at least one brightener from the class of distyrylbiphenyls. The invention also relates to aqueous liquid brightener preparations which are suitable for the washing method.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for the inhibition (quenching) of the effect of anionic fluorescent whitening agents on a substrate, comprising treating the substrate with a triazine UVA compound, some of which are new compounds.
