Abstract: A composite insulating panel comprises an external metal skin (1), an internal metal skin (2), and an insulating core (3) of phenolic foam between the skins (1, 2). The insulating panels are manufactured by first conveying one of the metal skins (1) continuously along a flat bed (30) with an outer surface of the skin (1) lowermost. Liquid phenolic insulating foam reactants are then laid down through a lay down device such as a poker (35) onto the first skin (1). The second skin (2) is laid continuously over the liquid insulating foam reactants and the first metal skin (1). A coating is applied to the foam-receiving faces of one and preferably both metal skins to assist in the adhesion of the phenolic foam to the skins. The skins (1, 2) are spaced-apart by spacer blocks (50) which maintain the skins at a desired spacing corresponding to a desired panel thickness, after the skins (1, 2) are assembled. The skins (1, 2) with the foam reactants laid down therebetween are led through the oven (40) in which the foam rises to fill the space between the skin (1, 2). To assist the uniform foam expansion the skins may be locally heated, especially at the side marginal edges. Spacer blocks are preferably heated as these engage both side marginal edges of both skins, during foam expansion.

Abstract: The invention relates to a low cost roofing element with integrated thermal solar collector (22) and with a surface that has the same visual appearance as conventional roofing, said roofing element being very light in weight and maintenance free, having an extremely long life, and optionally possessing outstanding insulation properties. Due to its composite construction a roofing system is provided which is free from cold bridges, waterproof and windproof and which can be installed and piped-up extremely rapidly, at low cost and with high precision. In the way it is fitted by means of a profiled large surface carrier rail fitted directly to the rafters, of the tongues and grooves (44) an of the guiding grooves and tongues, the roofing element forms an extremely solid roof covering, possessing sufficient load-bearing strength to stand up to snow and wind pressure and to be walked upon. Moreover, it allows limitless possibilities for combination with roofing elements which are covered or wrapped with a surface skin, and for attachment of snow stoppers (14) and brackets (15) for snow guards.

Abstract: Described is a roof-covering element which can be manufactured inexpensively and which has the appearance, on the outside, of a conventional roof covering, is very light and has an extremely long life, as well as being completely maintenance-free. The element can optionally have excellent insulating characteristics. Its composite design enables a roof covering to be produced which has no thermal-conduction heat-loss points, is impermeable to water and is windproof. It can be laid rapidly, cheaply and extremely accurately in only one operation and can be mounted directly by means of a shaped-section rail on the rafters. Edge elements (verge flashing, eaves) and ridge-head elements, as well as snow-retention bars and mountings for snow elements, rakes can be fitted extremely rapidly and securely. The covering elements are fixed in place by means of a rail with a large cross section, tongue-and-groove design, guide grooves and guide springs, overlaps and 'staggered' laying, thus giving an extremely stable roof covering and adequate strength to resist snow and wind pressure and to be walked on.

Abstract: The invention concerns a groove and spring connection of wall or roof elements (10, 11), said elements having smooth or profiled surfaces and consisting of two protective metallic layers (12) maintained at a distance apart by a foam core, said connection comprising horizontal or vertical connection faces of the elements, a fastening clamp (21) located in a connection joint between two elements, and a branch (25) which can be screwed to the later inner face of the elements. The protective metallic layer which forms the later outer face constitutes a spring (13) on one connecting front face of the element. At the subsequent inner face of this front face is an indentation (16) which serves as a groove. The second, opposite front face of the element has an indentation (20) on the outer side and a spring (18) on the inner side. The indentation (16) on the inner side is longer than the spring (18) on the inner side. The gap formed when the groove and spring connection is assembled is filled by the screwable branch (25) and the fastening screw (26) of the fastening clamp (21) and the fastening clamp (21) runs in a manner known per se into the gap at the joint and grips at least the inner spring (15).

Abstract: A building block for constructing a wall comprises a main body. The main body has an insulating core with concrete inner and outer shell members. The inner and outer shell members respectively cover inner and outer lateral surfaces of the insulating core. A vertical throughbore in the main body receives a vertical structural member. Top and bottom surfaces of the main body have complementary shapes for mating engagement when blocks are assembled one on top of the other. A female connector at a first end of the main body defines a retaining cavity. A male connector at a second end of the main body has a captive portion of shape complementary to the retaining cavity of the female connector, and blocks engagement in vertical and longitudinal directions when the blocks are assembled end to end. A construction system is also provided.

Abstract: An insulated panel comprises a generally flat external facing 2. a profiled internal decking sheet 3, and an insulating core 4 between the external facing 2 and internal sheet 3. The internal sheet 3 is typically of steel material. The core 4 is of polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foam material which fills the space between the facing 2, and the sheet 3. The panel 1 is generally used for a flat or low pitch roofing system. The outer flat facing 2 may comprise a weather membrane or may have a prebonded weather membrane such as a plastics membrane, for example of polyvinylchloride. In this case the PVC membrane is heat sealed at the panel joint when assembled on site. The outer facing 2 may alternatively comprise a prebonded bitchumen type membrane to which a further bitchumen type membrane may be applied on site. The outer facing 2 may also not have a prebonded weather membrane. In this case, a weather membrane such as a PVC membrane may be applied on site. The internal sheet 3 has profiled joint-forming portions for connecting adjacent panels, on assembly. One side edge of the insulating core 4 has a first step 23 which defines a projecting part 20 and the opposite side edge has a step 24 which defines a recess part 21. The projecting and recess parts 20, 21 interengage an assembly of adjacent like panels.
