An oscillatory rotary engine comprising a toroidal housing having an intake port and an exhaust port. The housing supports an output shaft and a plurality of stacked rotors are disposed within the housing and coupled to the output shaft. Each rotor includes a plurality of pistons disposed in spaced relation to each other about a circumference of the rotor. A resilient coupler connects the rotors to the output shaft. Preferably, the coupler comprises a plurality of nested spiral cuts extending through the rotor. Each piston may include a pawl that is operative to engage ratchets located around the housing, thereby allowing rotation of each rotor in only one direction. The oscillatory rotary engine may further include a compression bypass port that is operative to relieve intake air pressure during compression, whereby the engine has a compression ratio that is less than its expansion ratio.

A multi-stage expansion device having bypass capabilities and a variable speed drive is disclosed. In one example, the multi-stage expansion device has a housing within which a first stage, a second stage, and a third stage are housed. The housing may also be configured with internal working fluid passageways to direct a working fluid from the first stage to the second stage and/or from the second stage to the third stage. Each of the stages may include a pair of non-contacting rotors that are mechanically connected to each other and to a power output device such that energy extracted from the working fluid is converted to mechanical work at the output device. In one example, a bypass line is provided to bypass working fluid around the first stage and a bypass line is provided to bypass working fluid around the second stage.

A Gas Pressure Reduction Generator (GPRG) System and a method for implementing a GPRG System is provided, in which the GPRG System includes (i) a gas inlet configured to receive a pressurized gas flow from a gas supply, (ii) at least one expander in flow communication with the gas inlet to receive the pressurized gas flow, wherein the expander is operable to convert the pressurized gas flow into mechanical energy and a depressurized gas flow, and (iii) a generator associated with the expander, wherein the generator is configured to convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy. In some embodiments, the pressurized gas flow can be a pressurized natural gas flow.
