    摘要: Materials suitable for use in non-linear optical devices comprise morpholinium or thiomorpholinium salts of hydroxy-substituted aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acids selected from tartaric acid and hydroxy-substituted benzoic and cinnamic acids, which salts have a non-centrosymmetric crystalline form. Preferred salts include morpholinium 3-hydroxybenzoate, morpholinium 4-hydroxybenzoate, morpholinium 3,5-dihydroxybenzoate, morpholinium 3-fluoro-4-hydroxybenzoate, dimorpholinium 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-hydroxybenzoate, morpholinium 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzoate, morpholinium tartrate, morpholinium 4-hydroxycinnamate, thiomorpholinium 4-hydroxybenzoate and thiomorpholinium 3,5-dihydroxybenzoate.

    摘要: A three-dimensional molecular array on one of a conductor and semiconductor surface is disclosed. The array comprises at least one columnar stack comprising a plurality of substituted aromatic rings, wherein the aromatic rings of each columnar stack lie about parallel to the surface, wherein the columnar stack comprises a plurality of hydrogen bonds between substituents of different rings. Each stack may include aromatic amides in which the amido group is not coplanar with the aromatic core. A method for the synthesis of such aromatic amides is also disclosed. The aromatic amides may also be used to prepare pyro-ferro-, and piezo electric devices, as well as nonlinear optical devices and conductors, which comprise the columnar stacks described.

    摘要: Sterically stabilized polyene-bridged second-order nonlinear chromophores and devices incorporating the same are embodied in a variety of chromophore materials. An exemplary preferred chromophore includes an electron donor group, an electron acceptor group and a pi-conjugate bridge structure therebetween. The bridge is a polyene structure having a five-, six- or seven-membered ring to lock one carbon-carbon double bond. The bridge contains an unlocked conjugate diene unit which connects the bridge ring and the acceptor. A preferred host polymer for the chromophores is poly[bisphenol A carbonate-co-4,4'-(3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexylidene)diphenol carbonate].
