The heating member is characterize by having a surface layer (15) where a material (metal particles, for example) (44) having either of or both thermal conductivity and electric conductivity is mixed in a resin material (fluorocarbon resin, for example)(43) having mold releasability and is characterized in that three or more of the metal particles (44) are continuously in contact with each other. More specifically, the heating member (fixing member) has the surface layer (15) where metal particles (44) are mixed in the fluorocarbon resin (43), and three or more of the metal particles (44) are continuously in contact with each other so as to surround a fluorocarbon resin section (41), forming a metal continuous contact section (42). This can enhance thermal conductivity factor and electric conductivity factor while maintaining mold releasability of the surface layer (15).

A fuser member comprising: a substrate comprising an outer substrate surface; and an outer layer comprising compatible first and second fluorothermoplastics disposed over the outer substrate surface, wherein the first fluorothermoplastic is a crosslinked polymer and the second fluorothermoplastic is a linear polymer and wherein the compatible first and second fluorothermoplastics form a semi-interpenetrating polymer network (SIPN). The SIPN provides a relatively compliant layer in comparison to use of the crosslinked polymer alone, and avoids the need for sintering of a layer formed from the linear polymer alone. The SIPN may be formed from an aqueous coated composition of polyperfluoroalkoxy-tetrafluoroethylene (PFA) and THV Fluoroplastics (FLC) polymers along with a soluble organic primary amine for crosslinking the THV Fluoroplastics (FLC).

A tie layer is disposed on the resilient layer or the outer surface if no resilient layer is present, the tie layer being made of fluoropolymers, fluoroelastomers, fluorocarbon thermoplastic copolymers and mixtures thereof. An outer layer of fluoropolymer resin made from polytetrafluoroethylene, polyperfluoroalkoxy-tetrafluoroethylene, polyfluorinated ethylene-propylene and blends thereof, is disposed on the tie layer.
