A dual-sided smart card reader (100), and method for operating the same, is disclosed. The dual-sided smart card reader (100) permit the simultaneous insertion of at least two different smart cards from opposing sides. The dual -sided smart card reader (100) may additionally include a biometric verification device, such as fingerprint scanner (120, 121), for comparing biometric information from an operator of the reader (100) to biometric information stored on a smart card (150, 160). Also, the dual-sided smart card reader (10 may additionally include a pulse monitor, such as a sensor, to detect a pulse of an operator of the reader (100).

Der tragbare Datenträger (1) weist eine elektronische Schaltung (4) zur Speicherung und Verarbeitung von Daten und eine Eingabevorrichtung (6) zur Eingabe von Daten durch einen Benutzer auf . La présente invention concerne le domaine de la protection de zones géographiques contre les intrusions indésirables, voire hostiles, d'objets mobiles menaçants. L'invention a pour objet une barrière de détection radioélectrique bistatique comportant des moyens pour émettre une ou plusieurs ondes au travers d'une antenne directive et des moyens pour recevoir des signaux au travers d'une antenne directive pointé dans la direction d'émission. Cette antenne est principalement caractérisée en ce qu'elle comporte des moyens auxiliaires pour émettre une onde au travers d'une antenne non directive et des moyens pour comparer les niveaux relatifs des échos reçus provenant de l'onde émise par la voie d'émission principale, directive, et des échos provenant de l'onde émise par la voie d'émission auxiliaire, le résultat de la comparaison permettant d'identifier les échos issus d'une onde émise dans la direction des lobes secondaires de l'antenne d'émission directive, et ainsi de diminuer le nombre de fausses alarmes d'intrusion. A dual-sided smart card reader, and method for operating the same, is disclosed. The card (10) comprises indicia (14) formed thereon and a memory (19) having data stored therein for communicating with an external device. The read device (1) comprises a substantially transparent touch sensitive membrane (8) arranged to overlay the interface card (10) upon receipt of the card (10) in the read device (1). The read device (1) also comprises a central processing unit for sending a service identifier, and a specific portion of the data to the external device. The specific data is related to a user selected indicia (14), wherein the external device provides a service identified by the service identifier upon receipt of the data.

Either a first memory card (13) for storing subscriber's information indispensable for communication, such as information on contract with a communication carrier or information to identify the user as a subscriber or a second memory card (15) for mainly storing application programs is selectively connected to a mobile radio apparatus. When the second memory card is installed, a main control unit (16) transfers the subscriber's information stored in the first memory card to the second memory card. Based on the subscriber's information, the main control unit receives the incoming call signal from a base station and informs notice of an incoming call. To speak by telephone, the second memory card is replaced with the first memory card, which makes it possible to talk over the telephone. Therefore, it is possible to provide an expandable mobile radio apparatus that enables functions to be added at the user's request.
