The method comprises: receiving, from an electronic device of the merchant, a transaction message comprising merchant identification data, customer identification data, and data on cost of the transaction; retrieving, from a merchant database, a profile of the merchant identified by the merchant identification data, the merchant profile comprising details of a financial account of the merchant; communicating a payment message to a mobile device of the customer identified by the customer identification data, the payment message comprising an address link to an online payment interface; receiving, from the online payment interface accessible by the customer mobile device via the address link, authorization of the transaction by the customer and details of a customer payment vehicle; and transferring the transaction cost from the customer payment vehicle to the merchant financial account.

    摘要: The present invention provides a system and method for enabling a user to make bill payment through bill notification SMS received by the user. In one embodiment, the smart bill payment is enabled on a mobile communication device of the user by a smart bill payment application installed in the mobile communication device. In another embodiment, a feature embedded in the operating system of the mobile communication device enables the smart bill payment. The system identifies a bill payment SMS received on the mobile communication device and prompts the user to initiate payment through the bill payment SMS. Once the user initiates the payment, the user is directed to a bill payment application displaying the payment page with a preferred mode of payment and details of payment being prefilled. The user is enabled to make payment by clicking submit button to complete the payment.

The system allows a merchant to accept payment cards firstly via TCP/IP and secondly via SMS and/or USSD wherever only the most basic GSM network is available. The merchant does not need dedicated wireless terminals to do that. With the smartphone app and the peripheral card reader using the novel method, a merchant in the middle of a remote African village or Siberia can accept a payment cards on the spot, right there and then, if basic GSM network is available, but can also use the same devices in e.g. central London with 4G networks. A corresponding software product is also described.
