The method comprises the steps of: detecting at least one public audio announcement comprised in an analog and/or digital audio signal broadcasted from an audio broadcasting system (12); recording the detected public audio announcement; notifying a user of the hearing device (14) about availability of at least one new unheard public audio announcement; and replaying said public audio announcement on demand.

An alarm for a door is operable to generate an alarm signal when a rotary grip member of the door is rotated to a particular position, such as an unlocked position. The alarm comprises a housing having a strap retainer configured to receive and retain a strap to hold the housing to the rotary grip member. The alarm comprises a tilt switch for switching when the housing is tilted. Control circuitry is interconnected to the tilt switch and to an annunciator and is operable to activate the annunciator dependent on a state of the tilt switch.

A system and method are provided for transmitting messages related to operations of electronic devices. A management apparatus is notified of an event that occurred in a specific one of a plurality of electronic devices. The management apparatus determines one or more target devices in response to notification of the event that occurred in the specific electronic device. An event message corresponding to the event that occurred in the specific electronic device is created. The management apparatus transmits the event message to the one or more target devices. The one or more target devices output the received event message.

In one aspect of the teachings herein, an alert notification system provides targeted and mass notifications via wireless transmissions within a defined network coverage area served by a radio network, which may be a closed private radio network and which, in one or more contemplated embodiments, comprises an appropriately configured cellular communications network. The alert notification system includes a central monitoring station that is configured to perform one or more alert functions that are in some sense optimized for processing and responding to alerts to, among other advantages, rapidly and effectively notify persons included within a defined population of emergencies and other alert conditions.

The invention relates to a communications network for use in the field of nursing care. Said communications network comprises network devices and a bus line (36, 42, 44, 46) which connects said network devices. The aim of the invention is to create a reliable and cost-efficient network for various communications services in the field of nursing care with which the safety requirements in the field of nursing care are satisfied. To this end, the network devices and the bus line (36, 42, 44, 46) are configured for a digital isochronous data transmission, and the data transmission is carried out in data frames with a predetermined duration and with a predetermined number of time slots for the arrangement of data, whereby, in each data frame, at least one time slot is reserved for the arrangement of emergency call data.

The present invention relates to a patient care and communication system which utilizes a central processing system and a plurality of remote stations electrically connected to the central processing system to facilitate visual and data communications. Each remote station includes telephone circuitry which is connected to a private branch exchange for telephone communications between stations. In addition, the private branch exchange is connected to a telephone exchange and a plurality of telephones for facilitating telephone communication therebetween. The central processing system facilitates the visual and data communications between the plurality of remote stations, and includes a system for determining which of the plurality of remote stations are transmitting the visual and data communications and which of the plurality of remote stations are to receive the visual and data communications. The central processing system also includes a system which establishes a communication link between the transmitting stations and the receiving stations. The remote stations include a processing system which also facilitates the visual, data and telephone communications and a display for displaying the visual communications. The present invention also includes a staff and/or patient locator system, in which each remote station includes an infrared receiver that receives infrared transmissions from a portable transmitter worn by a staff member or patient. The infrared transmissions include identity information associated with the person wearing the transmitter. The identity information is then transferred to the central processing system which determines the identity and location of each person wearing a portable transmitter.
