An electrical current transformer for installation upon a power distribution line including a generally annular, split core and a secondary winding. The secondary winding includes a first winding portion, wound with a first winding polarity about the split core, and a second winding portion, wound with a second, opposite winding polarity about the split core, and a tap. The transformer further includes first and second rectifiers, electrically connecting a tap output to terminals of the first and second winding portion opposite the tap, respectively, and a tap control for controlling the tap output, where the tap is both electrically connectable to the output to provide an additive connection and electrically isolatable from the output to cause a subtractive connection. The tap control controls the tap output in response to a condition sensed in the powered circuit. Self-cancellation may be achieved by using windings having an equal number of turns.

Die vorliegende Erfindung stellt magnetische Kerne und Verfahren zu deren Herstellung bereit, wobei die magnetischen Kerne mindestens zwei Materialien mit unterschiedlichen magnetischen Eigenschaften aufweisen, wobei die Materialien aus einem Ferritmaterial, einem Oxidkeramikmaterial und einem superparamagnetischen Material ausgewählt werden und entlang des magnetischen Kerns abwechselnd in einzelnen Bereichen ausgebildet sind.
Abstract:
A core for a planar magnetic component on a printed circuit board, the core comprising a first wing, a second wing, a centre pin and a base. The first wing, second wing and centre pin all protrude from the same face of the base. The base has a straight edge between a first end of the base and a second end of the base. The first wing has a straight edge and the first wing is arranged at the first end of the base with said straight edge of the first wing aligned along said straight edge of the base. The second wing has a straight edge and the second wing is arranged at the second end of the base with said straight edge of the second wing aligned along said straight edge of the base. The centre pin is positioned on said face of the base such that there is a gap on said face of the base between said straight edge of the base and the closest part of the centre pin to said straight edge of the base. Advantageously, the core may be positioned along a straight edge of a printed circuit board, PCB, and this allows the available space on the PCB to be used more efficiently and it is easier to connect a planar magnetic component using the core to other components. Applications include switch mode power supplies and any other devices that use planar magnetic components.
