A silver/palladium alloy for electrical contact applications comprises, on a weight percent basis, 20-50 silver, 20-50 palladium, 20-40 copper, less than 1.0 nickel, 0.1-5 zinc, 0.01-0.3 boron, and up to 1 percent by weight of modifying elements selected from the group consisting of rhenium, ruthenium, gold, and platinum. The combination of zinc and boron provides an alloy of high strength and hardness and permits the use of lower amounts of both copper and palladium.

Electrical contacts comprising a base metal having a palladium alloy thereon, said alloy comprising from 30-60 weight percent Pd, (70-b) to (40-b) weight percent X, 0.05-5 weight percent Y, wherein b is the weight percent of Y, X is selected from Cu and Co and Y is selected from Ru, W, B, Ir and Nb and where X is solely Cu, Y is at least one of B and Ir with B being present in an amount of up to 0.25 weight percent. The alloy may form a part of a multi-layer tape clad or inlayed on the base metal. Further disclosed are electrical connectors which incorporate such contacts.
