Abstract:
Systems and methods for shunt current and mechanical loss mitigation in electrochemical systems include a conduit providing at least a portion of an electrically conductive pathway between the first and second electrochemical cells, wherein the conduit includes at least one shunt current suppression device configured as a loop, and/or a connector assembly for maintaining first and second connecting portions in adjacent positioning.
Abstract:
A redox flow battery system is provided with independent stack assemblies dedicated for charging and discharging functions. In such a system, characteristics of the charging stack assembly may be configured to provide a high efficiency during a charging reaction, and the discharging stack may be configured to provide a high efficiency during a discharging reaction. In addition to decoupling charging and discharging reactions, redox flow battery stack assemblies are also configured for other variables, such as the degree of power variability of a source or a load. Using a modular approach to building a flow battery system by separating charging functions from discharging functions, and configuring stack assemblies for other variables, provides large-scale energy storage systems with great flexibility for a wide range of applications.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides biological fuel cells comprising a paper-based fuel delivery layer which delivery fuel to the biological anode and cathode via capillary action and/or evaporation. In some embodiments the paper-based fuel delivery layer incorporates an outwardly extending fan-shaped region which enables a constant volumetric flow rate through the cell.
Abstract:
A method for shifting energy in space and time includes charging an energy store from an energy source at a first location, transporting the energy store to a second location, and discharging the energy store at the second location to deliver energy to an energy consumer. A method for providing energy security to an energy consumer includes charging an energy store from an energy source at a first location, transporting the energy store to a second location, and when a primary energy source at the second location is unavailable, discharging the energy store at the second location to deliver energy to the energy consumer. A vehicle for wirelessly transmitting electric power from a first location to a second location includes a battery, at least one power converter, a controller, and power coupling electrically coupled to the at least one power converter.
