A base station for gathering data from localized sensors is described. An example apparatus includes a sensor to be operatively coupled to field equipment, the sensor having a radio frequency transmitter to send a signal to a base station, the base station having a radio frequency interface to receive the signal from the sensor and a first controller to collect data from the signal and store the data in a memory. The apparatus further includes a second controller operatively coupled to the first controller to relay the data to an asset management system and a local control panel operatively coupled to the base station to send additional data to the base station, wherein the first controller stores the additional data in the memory.

A system, apparatus, and method directed to impedance matching an antenna with a transmitter for non-directional radio beacons. The apparatus includes an L-type impedance network comprising non-capacitive elements and at least one variable inductor on each branch of the impedance network. Also, system, apparatus, and method directed to providing a low power signal for tuning the antenna. The apparatus includes an impedance matching network and a signal generator. Also, a system, apparatus, and method directed to providing an estimate of near-field strength of a signal from an antenna. The apparatus includes an impedance matching network, a near-field signal strength detector, and microcontroller configured to estimate the near-field signal strength. Corresponding systems includes using the respective apparatuses between an antenna and a transmitter. Corresponding methods are directed to the use of the apparatuses and systems.

A sensor system including an implantable sensor and an external transceiver. Aspects of the sensor system may provide improved implantation and antenna orientation of the implanted sensor. The sensor may include a sensor antenna, the transceiver may include a transceiver antenna. In some embodiments, the sensor antenna and/or transceiver antenna may include a first set of coils oriented in a first plane and a second set of coils oriented in a second plane that is different than the first plane. In some embodiments, the sensor may have a geometry that will prevent or reduce movement and/or rotation of the implanted sensor. For instance, in some embodiments, the sensor may be enclosed in silicon that contains antenna coils and/or include wings, a fluid filled sack, a swelling material, an expansion material, and/or arms.

An apparatus (3000) for detecting a presence of an object (3024), especiallly a conductive or metallic object, in a magnetic field is provided. The apparatus includes a power circuit (3036.3006) configured to generate the magnetic field and transfer power wirelessly at a level sufficient to power or charge a load via the magnetic field, the magnetic field causing a vibration of the object (3024). The apparatus (3000) further includes a detection circuit (3030) configured to transmit signals and detect, based on a reflection of the transmitted signals, a frequency of the vibration of the object (3024) caused by the magnetic field.

Described herein are techniques related to near field coupling and proximity sensing operations. For example, a proximity sensor uses a coil antenna that is utilized for near field communications (NFC) functions. The proximity sensor may be integrated into an NFC module to form a single module.

Es wird eine Möglichkeit zur Kanalschätzung für die Drahtloskommunikation zwischen einem Kraftfahrzeug und einem anderen Kommunikationsteilnehmer beschrieben, wobei das Ergebnis einer Umfeldsensorik bei der Kanalschätzung mit verwendet wird. Dies soll dadurch erfolgen, dass mittels der Umfeldsensorik das Ausbreitungsverhalten der Drahtloskommunikation in der Nähe des Kraftfahrzeugs erkannt und klassifiziert wird, wobei aufgrund der Klassifizierung des Ausbreitungsverhaltens die Kanalschätzung angepasst wird.

Exemplary embodiments are directed to an electronic device for enabling a temperature of a battery unit to be sensed with a wired power charger or a wireless power. A device may include a wireless power receiver and a wired charging module operably coupled to the wireless power receiver. The device may also include an interface configured to couple to a battery unit and for selectively enabling one of the wireless power receiver and the wired charging module to determine a temperature of the battery unit.
