Abstract: A surgical system includes a fluid source, an ultrasonic transducer, an ultrasonic waveguide coupled to and extending distally from the ultrasonic transducer, and an ultrasonic blade disposed at a distal end of the ultrasonic waveguide and configured to receive ultrasonic energy produced by the ultrasonic transducer and transmitted along the ultrasonic waveguide to vibrate the ultrasonic blade for treating tissue therewith. The ultrasonic blade is configured to connect to a source of electrosurgical energy for conducting electrosurgical energy to tissue to treat tissue. The ultrasonic blade defines a lumen extending at least partially therethrough to at least one opening. The lumen is configured for fluid communication with a fluid source to enable the delivery of fluid from the fluid source through the lumen and out the at least one opening into a surgical site to facilitate electrosurgical tissue treatment.

Abstract: A system for treatment of a target region of lung tissue including: a flow regulator configured to be interposed between a conductive fluid source and a conductive fluid outlet positionable at or in proximity of the target region of lung tissue, the flow regulator being further configured for controlling a flow rate or a bolus quantity of conductive fluid coming from the fluid source and delivered to the conductive fluid outlet; and a controller communicatively connectable with said flow regulator and with at least one sensor, with the at least one sensor being configured for detecting values taken by at least one control parameter representative of a physical property, wherein the physical property is one of temperature (T), pressure (p), electric impedance (Z), or electric conductivity (C) of material present at or in proximity of the target region of lung tissue.

Abstract: An imaging and resecting device includes a handle coupled to an elongated shaft extending about a longitudinal axis and having an interior passageway extending therethrough. A resecting component shaft extends through the interior passageway to a working end carrying an RF electrode, and a sensor sleeve at having an insulative layer extends through the interior passageway and is coupled to a distal image sensor formed from an sensor chip and a lens having an optical axis and a field of view. The image sensor is sized to fit within an open distal end of the interior passageway, and at least one co-axial sensor cable carried in an interior lumen of the sensor sleeve, each sensor cable having a shielding layer and coupled to the image sensor. The sensor sleeve is configured to shield the image sensor and each sensor cable from electrical interference caused by the RF electrode during use.

Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for transvascular ablation of target issue. The devices and methods may, in some examples, be used for splachnic nerve ablation to increase splanchnic venous blood capacitance to treat at least one of heart failure and hypertension. For example, the devices disclosed herein may be advanced endovascularly to a target vessel in the region of a thoracic splachnic nerve (TSN), such as a greater splachnic nerve (GSN), or a TSN nerve root. Also disclosed are methods of treating heart failure, such as HFpEF, by endovascularly ablating a thoracic splachnic nerve to increase venous capacitance and reduce pulmonary blood pressure.

Abstract: An improved system and method of endobronchial imaging of lung nodules comprises the introduction of a perfluorocarbon (PFC) liquid into pulmonary passages of the lungs, the introduction of which enables better coupling between an endobronchial ultrasonic imaging system and a target tissue site within the pulmonary passages of the lungs, the improved coupling between the ultrasonic imaging system and a target tissue site being imparted by the removal (at least in part) the air interface present between the ultrasonic imaging system and the surface of the target tissue site. Furthermore, the unique properties of perfluorocarbon liquids (for example, the properties of superb biocompatibility, high affinity for dissolving oxygen, and extremely low surface tension) further position these substances to be particularly well-suited for this application.

Abstract: A multifunctional surgical instrument (1) is provided. The multifunctional surgical instrument (1) comprises a proximal portion (13) and two legs (14), each leg comprising a distal end (11, 12), wherein a default position of the multifunctional surgical instrument is an open position, wherein the distal ends (11, 12) of the legs (14) do not meet in the open position, characterized in that each leg (14) comprises an aspiration half-channel (26, 27), the proximal portion (13) comprises an aspiration connection (29) and at least one of the distal ends (11, 12) comprises at least one aspiration orifice (28), wherein the two half-channels (26, 27) are configured to form an air-tight and water-tight continuous channel (25) connecting the at least one aspiration orifice (28) to the aspiration connection (29) when the multifunctional surgical instrument is in a fully closed position and are configured to open the aspiration channel (25) when the multifunctional surgical instrument is not in the fully closed position.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a handle, a catheter, an end effector, and a deflection drive assembly. The end effector includes at least one electrode. The deflection drive assembly includes an input member, a translating assembly coupled to the end effector, and a rack and pinion assembly. The rack and pinion assembly is configured to drive the translating assembly to deflect the end effector away at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis and consists of a rack and a pinion. The rack and pinion assembly is configured to either transfer rotational motion of the pinion from the input member into linear motion of the rack to push distally or pull proximally the translating member; or transfer linear motion of the rack from the input member into rotational motion of the pinion to move a first end of the translating member proximally and a second end of the translating member distally.

Abstract: An electrosurgical wand for reducing tissue is disclosed. The wand includes a handle and an elongate shaft, the shaft having a major longitudinal axis, a conduit extending 5 therethrough and a non-insulated distal end portion defining a first electrode. The first electrode has a distal most edge configured to mechanically pierce tissue, and an arcuate surface extending proximally from the distal most edge along the major longitudinal axis, the arcuate surface having a convex surface that faces in a distal direction. First and second arcuate edges define lateral edges of the arcuate surface. A second electrode is disposed 10 at an opening of the conduit and electrically isolated from the first electrode. The second electrode comprises an aperture, configured to aspirate fluid and tissue debris therethrough.

Abstract: A first module configured to engage with a second module in a stacked configuration to define a modular energy system is provided. The first module comprises a first bridge connector portion and a second conductive portion. The first bridge connector portion is configured to engage with a second bridge connector portion of the second module as the first module and the second module are engaged. The first conductive portion is configured to engage with a second conductive portion of the second module as the first module and the second module are engaged, prior to engagement between the first bridge connector portion and the second bridge connector portion.
