Abstract: A biological sterilization indicator (BI) is provided. The BI can include a housing, and a container positioned in the housing. The BI can further include a first chamber, and a second chamber with a source of biological activity disposed therein. The BI can further include a substrate positioned in the housing between the first chamber and the second chamber. The substrate can be positioned in fluid communication with the first chamber and the second chamber, and the substrate can be further positioned such that the substrate is not in direct contact with the source of biological activity. The substrate can comprise a hydrophobic nonporous film having an aperture. The substrate and the aperture are dimensioned to control fluid flow between the first compartment and the second compartment. The substrate can extend around substantially the entire inner perimeter of the housing between the first compartment and the second compartment.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments can pertain to process indicator enhancements. A process indicator can include a dye material that has electrical properties such as conductivity and capacitance that can be employed to determine whether observed conditions are acceptable or not to sterilize medical equipment. Furthermore, the indicators can employ amplification, a specialized antenna, or both to allow signals, such as an electronic property value, to be communicated through sterilization containers that can shield or degrade signals. A number and location of indicators can also be determined and utilized to assist in visual inspection of the indicators as well as automatic evaluation.

Abstract: A surgical instrument system that comprises a shaft and a handle assembly releasably couplable to the shaft. The handle assembly comprises a disposable outer housing defining a sterile barrier. The disposable outer housing is movable between an open configuration and a closed configuration. The handle assembly further comprises a control inner core receivable inside the disposable outer housing in the open configuration. The disposable outer housing is configured to isolate the control inner core within the sterile barrier in the closed configuration. The surgical instrument system further comprises an end effector releasably couplable to the shaft and an electrical interface assembly configured to transmit data and power between the control inner core and the end effector. Abstract: A system for disinfecting an enclosed space includes an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection assembly, a sensor to detect occupancy in or entry into the enclosed space, and a controller. The UV disinfection assembly includes UV emitters. The controller controls operation of the UV emitters to carry out disinfection operations, each of a predetermined UV dose. The controller activates a disinfection operation in a first mode when: (1A) the sensor indicates no occupancy in or no entry into the enclosed space. The controller activates a disinfection operation in a second mode when: (2A) the sensor indicates no occupancy in or no entry into the enclosed space, and (2B) there is a qualified human input through a human-machine interface (HMI) in communication with the controller. The controller suspends or deactivates the disinfection operation when the sensor indicates occupancy in or entry into the enclosed space.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for validating a decontamination procedure performed using a decontamination system that comprises a first product for use in a first step of the procedure, such as a pre-clean step, and a second product for use in a subsequent second step of the procedure, such as a disinfection step. The method comprises capturing a video stream of a work area in which the decontamination procedure is carried out by a user, analysing the video stream to identify when the first product is present in the work area and when the second product is present in the work area, determining, based on said identification, that the first and second products have been presented in the correct order in the decontamination procedure, and causing a corresponding indication to be provided to the user. The method may include alerting the user to potential errors and/or logging data to provide an audit trail.

Abstract: A mobile sterilization system, a sterilization vehicle, a mobile execution system, a mobile preprocessing system, and a mobile analysis system are disclosed. Each device has the advantages of flexible structure, strong mobility, and relatively simple operation.
