Abstract: A needle and pre-fidled syringe system (10) that provides ultra-low waste and automatic neediestick protection. A syringe assembly (12) is pre-filled with a material (15). A needle head assembly (14) attaches to the syringe assembly (12). A spacer (54) is disposed between the needle head assembly (14) and the syringe assembly (12). The spacer (54) has a central opening (56). The needle head assembly (14) supports a needle (16) with a needle base (20). When assembled, the needle base (20) passes into the central opening (56) of the spacer (54). The needle head assembly (14) also contains a safety slide (22) that can selectively cover the needle (16). During an injection, pressure and/or contact with the plunger head (52) causes the spacer (54) to contact and move the safety slide (22). The safety slide (22) moves to cover the needle (16) during the injection procedure, therein rendering the needle (16) safe.

Abstract: During filling and capping of a syringe, with for example a fluid medicament, air may be trapped between the syringe, cap and the fluid. This air has to be removed prior to the fluid medicament being injected into the body of a patient. For removing air from the syringe during capping, a cap is provided comprising a protrusion extending from the cap, which protrusion is arranged to be at least partially inserted into an outlet end of the syringe. During this insertion, the protrusion may enter the fluid medicament, and displace the fluid medicament such that excess air is pressed out of the syringe by virtue of the displacement of the fluid medicament. This may prevent traveling of bubbles through the volume of medical liquid in the syringe, which may have to be driven out by tapping or other agitation.

The chip is overmolded in one of the main body and the end portion and the antenna is overmolded in the other one of the main body and the end portion, the chip and the antenna being electrically connected by a bridge (22) extending through the frangible portion (100c) of the tip connector, the bridge being configured to break under a relative movement applied to the closure cap and the tip connector in order to release the closure cap from the tip connector.
