Abstract:
A method of manufacture of zinc monoglycerolate containing an incorporated modifier, and the product, the zinc monoglycerolate being in the form of agglomerates of crystallites, wherein the crystallite size based on the average coherence domain length is not more than 30nm in the direction, and not more than 60nm in the direction, as determined by the Scherrer equation via powder X-ray diffraction; and the aspect ratio computed by / coherent domain lengths is less than 0.65, preferably less than 0.56, in particular less than 0.44. Polymers containing this nucleating agent and methods for their production are also described. The zinc monoglycerolate is useful as a nucleating agent, and is very effective at low loading levels in polymers such as polypropylene.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a single-pot process for the preparation of a shape controlled pro-catalyst. The process comprises the steps of i. reacting at least one alkanol with magnesium metal using at least one modifier and optionally, at least one solvent resulting in evolution of hydrogen gas, increasing the evolution of the hydrogen gas in a controlled manner by increasing the temperature in a graded manner to 100 °C to obtain a mass, and ii. subjecting the mass to drying to obtain a free flowing pro-catalyst.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for the synthesis of spheroidal magnesium alkoxide having improved mechanical strength and narrow particle size distribution, the process comprising reacting magnesium metal, in the presence of iodine, with a mixture of alcohols by step- wise heating first in the range of 40°C to 65°C for a period of 2 hours and then in the range of 65°C to 80°C for a period of 1 hour, further by maintaining reaction temperature at 80°C for a period of 6 - 10 hours, the vapours of the mixture produced during the reaction being condensed in an overhead condenser, hydrogen gas produced during the reaction being vented off and the mixture of alcohols left after the reaction being filtered and reused. The invention also relates to spheroidal magnesium alkoxide particles synthesized by the method, to the Ziegler natta procatalyst synthesized by using the alkoxide and to the polymer resin synthesised using the procatalyst.

Abstract:
Abstract:
A solid self-supported cycloalkadienyl catalyst component is disclosed that includes: (i) a mixed metal alkoxide complex which is the reaction product of a magnesium alkoxide or aryloxide and at least one group IVB metal-containing alkoxide or aryloxide; and (ii) Cp, where Cp is a cyclic or polycyclic hydrocarbon having from 3-30 carbon atoms. A self-supported hybrid catalyst also is disclosed which contains the above components (i) and (ii), as well as (iii) a Ziegler-Natta catalyst species. A method of making the self-supported cycloalkadienyl catalyst and the self-supported hybrid catalyst and a method of polymerizing olefins using the catalysts also are disclosed. The catalysts are capable of producing polyolefins in high yield having a broad molecular weight distribution, or a bimodal distribution.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing alkali methylates from an aqueous alkaline lye that is optionally mixed with methanol and methanol in a reaction column, said column comprising at least 5, preferably 15 to 30 theoretical trays between the inlet of the alkaline lye and the site of addition of the methanol. According to the inventive method, the vapor methanol-water mixture formed during the reaction is separated in a reaction column. According to an embodiment of the invention, the reaction column that is configured as a bubble-tray, valve-tray or sieve-plate column is provided with trays, each letting through maximally 5 %, preferably
