Abstract:
A core-shell composite particle for incorporation into a composite wherein the composite has improved transparency is disclosed. The core-shell composite particle includes a core material having a first refractive index and a shell material having a second refractive index where the core-shell particle has an effective refractive index determined by the first refractive index and the second refractive index. The effective refractive index is substantially equal to the refractive index of the envisioned embedding medium. Methods of forming the core-shell particles are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention concerns methods for grafting bioactive polymers on a prosthetic material, the materials obtainable by said method and applications thereof. More specifically, the invention concerns a method for directly grafting polymers on the surface of prosthetic materials.
Abstract:
An economic, optically transmissive, stain and ink repellent, durable low refractive index fluoropolymer composition for use in an antireflection film or coupled to an optical display. In one aspect of the invention, the composition is formed from the reaction product of a fluoropolymer, a C=C double bond group containing silane ester agent, and an optional multi-olefinic crosslinker. In another aspect of the invention, the composition further includes surface modified inorganic nanoparticles. In another aspect, the multi-olefinic crosslinker is an alkoxysilyl-containing multi-olefinic crosslinker.

Abstract:
A retroreflective article comprising a substrate and a cured ceramer coating provided on at least a portion of a surface of the substrate. The coated portion of the surface is retroreflective. The coating comprises a cured ceramer composite derived from ingredients comprising a free radically curable binder precursor and a plurality of surface treated, colloidal inorganic oxide components. The colloidal inorganic oxide components are surface treated with a surface treatment agent comprising a fluoro/silane component comprising a hydrolyzable silane moiety and a fluorinated moiety, and a crosslinkable silane component comprising a hydrolyzable silane moiety and a free radically crosslinkable moiety. The weight ratio of the crosslinkable silane component to the fluoro/silane component is from about 4:1 to 20:1, and the weight ratio of the free radically curable binder precursor to the colloidal inorganic oxide components is from about 1:10 to 8:10. A method of making a retroreflective article by coating a substrate with a ceramer composite coating is also described. A method of making a dew-resistant retroreflective article by coating a substrate with a ceramer composite coating and then surface treating the coating is also described.
Abstract:
Latex copolymer compositions copolymerized from alkenes, e.g., ethylene, are disclosed. Typical copolymer compositions comprise ethylene, vinyl acetate and optionally other monomers, such as, for example, higher branched vinyl esters, e.g., vinyl neodecanoate. Processes for producing the copolymer compositions are disclosed which can provide enhanced incorporation of the alkene monomer into the copolymer compositions. As a result, the processes can be operated at substantially lower pressures than commonly used for manufacturing alkene-containing latex copolymers.
