Hydrogenated polymers with a radial structure having a core made up of calixarenes of the general formula (I), to the core of which is linked a number P of hydrogenated linear polymer segments selected from: - hydrogenated homopolymers or copolymers of conjugated dienes; or - hydrogenated copolymers of said conjugated dienes and monoalkenyl arenes, and - mixtures thereof said formula (I) in which: - R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are independently selected from hydrogen; a group containing carbon and hydrogen; a group also containing heteroatoms in addition to carbon and hydrogen; a group also containing silicon in addition to carbon, hydrogen and heteroatoms; - one of the two substituents R 5 and R 6 is hydrogen, while the other may be hydrogen or alkyl, with a number of carbon atoms between 1 and 6, preferably methyl and ethyl; - n is an integer in the range between 4 and 16.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a lubricant for a ball-and-socket joint. Ball-shaped particles having two different particle sizes are inserted into an oil or a lubricating grease. The greater particles act as spacers which prevent a ball of the ball-and-socket joint to get placed onto a step bearing when the ball-and-socket joint is at a standstill. The smaller particles prevent an agglomeration of the greater particles. The smaller particles keep the greater particles at a distance from each other and thus distribute said greater particles in the gap of the ball-and-socket joint.

The invention provides a liquid lubricating oil composition comprising a dispersion of grease particles in a lubricating oil, which grease particles comprise a grease composition which comprises a mixture of a polymer and a base oil. The invention further provides a method for preparing the liquid lubricating oil composition. The invention also relates to the use of the liquid lubricating oil composition for lubricating a mechanical component having a metal surface; and the use of the liquid lubricating oil for protecting a mechanical component having a metal surface against corrosion, wear and/or fretting.

A method for forming a thickened lubricant, such as a grease, comprises forming polymer fibres having a diameter between 50 nanometres and 10 microns, more preferably between 100 nanometres and 1 micron, and depositing the polymer fibres into a lubricating fluid. The polymer fibres may be immediately deposited into the lubricating fluid upon being formed, such that the polymer fibres remain un-adhered to each other and the lubricating fluid rapidly cools the polymer fibres. A thickened lubricant formed according to this method is also disclosed.

Substantially linear ethylene polymers, such as ethylene/octene copolymers and ethylene/propylene/diene modified polymers, when added in a viscosity modifying amount to an oleaginous material, such as a lubricating oil, provides the material with a viscosity index that exceeds that of the material alone. The substantially linear ethylene polymers, prepared by constrained geometry catalysis, may be grafted with one or more unsaturated organic compounds, such as maleic anhydride, that contain ethylenic unsaturation. The grafted polymer may be further functionalized by reactions with, for example, an alcohol or an amine compound. The substantially linear ethylene polymers, when subjected to shearing action either before or after addition to an oleaginous material, improve shear stability of the oleaginous material. The substantially li near ethylene polymers, whether grafted, grafted and further reacted or not, also work as a thickening agent for compositions such as those used in greases, cable filling coumpounds and cosmetics. In addition, the substantially linear ethylene polymers provide effective results when blended with other components of conventional oleaginous material compositions.
