The present invention relates to a component consisting exclusively of non-woven natural textile fibres, and to a method and machine for the production thereof; the component (1 ) comprises a web (2) consisting exclusively of carded natural textile fibres which is pleated in the direction of the length and/or width of the component and which is needle-punched in the direction of the length and/or width of the component; the needle-punching affects only a central portion of a thickness of the component; its production is effected by: - continuously feeding (3) a long web (4) consisting exclusively of carded natural textile fibres towards a processing area (5), - repeatedly performing pleating operations on said web (4) according to a direction corresponding to the length of said web (4) by means of a pleating head (6) in said processing area (5), - repeatedly performing needle-punching operations on said pleated web (4) according to a direction corresponding to the length of said web (4) by means of a needle-punching head (7) in said processing area (5), in such a way as to needle-punch only a central portion of said thickness of said component, said central portion being in particular less than 80% of said thickness, and - continuously advancing (8) said pleated and needle-punched web (4) while distancing it from said processing area (5).

A deposition system includes a drum for supporting a web substrate during deposition that defines a plurality of apertures in an outer surface for passing cooling gas. A gas manifold includes an input that is coupled to an output of a gas source and at least one output that is coupled to the plurality of apertures in the outer surface of the drum. The gas manifold provides gas to the plurality of apertures that flows between the outer surface of the drum and the web substrate, thereby increasing heat transfer from the web substrate to the drum. At least one deposition source is positioned so that material deposits on the web substrate.

A method of applying a fabric relaxant to a textile surface provides a substantially wrinkle-free textile surface. The method includes moistening the textile surface, applying the fabric relaxant onto the moistened textile surface, and drying the moistened textile surface using steam. The fabric relaxant includes a hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane polymer having at least one positively-charged functional group.
Abstract:
Laminated elastic webs are manufactured in a pre-stretched condition using a laminating machine. A conveyor system located downstream of the laminating machine conveys the laminated elastic webs to packaging machines (e.g. reject splicers and festooners). The conveyor system operates at speeds proportionally less than the line speed of the laminating machine so that the laminated elastic web relaxes from its stretched condition, and becomes fully or almost fully relaxed and gathered before packaging. Sufficient relaxation is important before packaging so that the laminated elastic web does not set in stretched form while packaged, or alternatively relax further while packaged to create dead space within the packaging container. The conveyor system preferably includes an inclined conveyor belt followed by a multi-lane air conveyor. Each lane of the air conveyor gently transports one of several laminated elastic webs from the belt conveyor to the respective packaging machine.

A method of pleating a fabric, the method comprising pleating the fabric with a first pleating process to create a first set of pleats in the fabric along a first axis; pleating the fabric with a second pleating process to create a second set of pleats in the fabric along a second axis different to the first axis, wherein the second set of pleats are pleated over the first set of pleats, and wherein the first set of pleats is a set of in-plane pleats lying substantially in the plane of the fabric and the second set of pleats is a set of out-of-plane pleats which stand out of the plane of the fabric.
