Abstract:
A method of manufacture of a coated material comprising the steps of: providing a cellulosic substrate; melting a polyvinyl alcohol polymer, wherein the polyvinyl alcohol polymer has a degree of hydrolysis of 90% or greater and a melting point in the range of 180°C to 225°C; extruding the melted polyvinyl alcohol polymer to form a molten polyvinyl alcohol polymeric film; applying the molten film directly to the surface of the substrate; and allowing the film to solidify on the surface to form a coated material.
Abstract:
A method of producing paperboard and cartons made therefrom is described incorporating a waterproof or water resistant coating applied to the interior of the carton except for areas intended for gluing. A coating material (122) is applied to the surface of an applicator roll (110), and a portion of the coating material is then removed from the roll. Contact between a paperboard web (150) and the roll transfers coating material to the web, creating a coated surface except for an uncoated stripe (237). A carton blank (300) may be formed from the coated web with the uncoated portion of the carton blank cut from the uncoated stripe.
Abstract:
The present invention relates a method for the manufacture of paper, in particular of coated fine paper, in which method paper stock is fed from a headbox (100) to a wire section (200) in which water is drained from a paper web (W), in which method the paper web (W) is passed from the wire section (200) to a press section (300) to press water out of the paper web (W), and in which method, after the press section (300), the paper web (W) is dried in a dryer section (400), precalendered and coated in a coating station (600), after which the paper web (W) is dried in a drying section (650) and calendered in a final calender (900), and reeled in a reel-up (1000). In the method the stock is fed into the headbox (100) using multilayering technology, the paper web (W) is precalendered in a one or more reinforced-nip calender (500), the paper web (W) is coated in a film coating unit. The invention also relates to a paper machine line in particular for the manufacture of coated fine paper, which line comprises a headbox (100), a wire section (200), a press section (300), a dryer section (400), a precalender (500), a coating station (600) and drying section (680), a final calender (900) and a reel-up (1000). The paper machine line comprises multilayer headbox (100), a one or more reinforced-nip precalender (500), film coating station (600).
Abstract:
A coated substrate having an MVTR greater than about 5 perms comprises a substrate, a monolithic, extrusion coated breathable polymer layer, and a primer layer intermediate and adhered to the substrate and the monolithic, extrusion coated breathable polymer layer.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device (1) for applying a color to a substrate web (3) guided past the device (1) along a running direction (12). The device is characterized in that it comprises a surface region (28) that is designed convex in the running direction (12) and linear perpendicular to the running direction (12), which region can be brought in contact with the substrate web (3), and the convexly designed surface region (28) is provided with one passage, preferably at least two passages (6) for the color, which can be controlled separately in terms of the color and are offset in a direction perpendicular to the running direction (12), and through which the color is directly applied to the substrate web (3), wherein the application quantity of the color is dependent on the angle of attack (13-15) between the plane of the substrate web (3) and the normal to a tangential plane at the surface region (28) at the site of the respective passage (6).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for treating a continuous web of paper, cardboard or of another fibrous substance during the production and/or conversion thereof, during which a liquid to pasty application medium (2), particularly an aqueous pigment suspension, is contactlessly applied by an application mechanism (8) and without an excess of application medium (2) to the fibrous substance web (1), and the fresh applied layer (3a) is subsequently leveled or smoothed. The invention provides that the leveling or smoothing is carried out before an immobilization point of the (P) application medium (2) on the fibrous substance web (1) has been reached by a leveling or smoothing element (5). The smoothing or the leveling ensues in the range of between 0.04 to 1.0 s after the application, at a web speed ranging from 500 to 2000 m/min and at a distance (b) between the application mechanism (8) and the leveling or smoothing element (5) or applied line and beginning leveling or smoothing of
Abstract:
An essential requirement in coating a web of paper or paperboard is that the applied layer of coating mix spreads over the entire surface being treated. The surface energies of the coating mix and the surface being coated play a vital role in the behavior of the coating mix applied to the surface being treated. According to the invention, the surface energies of the base sheet and the coating mix are matched with each other so that the surface energy of the coating mix or the liquid phase separated therefrom is lower or equal to the surface energy of the surface being treated.
