Abstract:
Apparatus for facilitating recovery of objects from a hydraulic channel containing a flowing fluid, the apparatus comprising: a porous planar surface for disposition within the hydraulic channel, the porous planar surface being elevated in the direction of flow in the hydraulic channel at an angle to a plane extending normal to the force of gravity such that the horizontal component of the angle of elevation is greater than the vertical component thereof; wherein the porous planar surface is configured to permit the fluid flowing in the hydraulic channel to flow through the porous planar surface without materially obstructing the flow of the fluid in the hydraulic channel.
Abstract:
A fluid leak containment system for containing leaks of fluids, such as, but not limited to fossil fuels, during an underwater extraction process is disclosed. The fluid leak containment system may be configured to capture hydrates from the sea floor. The fluid leak containment system may be formed from a generally extendible, conically shaped containment structure including a plurality of decreasingly sized housing sections extending from an inlet to a smaller sized outlet. The housing sections may be formed from flexible materials that enable easy storage and rapid deployment. The outlet directs fossil fuels into a fluid containment device, such as, but not limited to, a vessel. The extendible containment housing may include an anchoring base configured to retain an inlet of the housing section at a bottom of a water body at a leak site.
Abstract:
Embodiments disclosed here include a containment system which may include a segmented buoyant rim. Certain embodiments also include an inflatable rim with at least one inflation/deflation valve in the rim segments and ballast in the rim segments. Additionally, certain embodiments include material connected to the rim segments, to enclose a void created in the rim and to hang below the buoyant rim.
Abstract:
An apparatus for treating water in a reservoir includes a funnel. A support assembly supports the funnel in a lengthwise upright orientation wt en the funnel is submerged. A water moving arrangement is arranged to move water through the funnel in a direction from ah inlet at an upper end of the funnel towards an outlet at lower end of the funnel

Abstract:
A floating debris collection device (1) comprising flotation members (2) which define a channel (19) into which water and floating debris can flow at a first end (21) towards a second end (22), first and second closure means (7, 8) for the channel adjacent said first and second ends respectively, the first and second closure means each being adapted to restrict floating debris but not water in the channel from flowing out of the channel; the first closure means being movable between an open position in which water and floating debris can flow into the channel and a closed position in which floating debris but not water in the channel is substantially restricted from flowing out of the channel; and means (43) sensitive to the direction of water flow with respect to the channel for moving the first closure means between said open and closed positions.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and system are provided, utilize a floating treatment wetland designed specifically for the sequestration of microplastic debris (i.e., plastic particles under 5 nm) from active water systems. This process can be achieved through the careful selection of a root structure combined with the development of a robust housing for the wetland pad, so that it may operate effectively in fast current conditions. Disclosed is a hydrodynamic fiberglass frame to encase and stabilize the floating treatment wetland during storm surges. The design of this frame may be adapted to encourage optimal flow to the underside of the wetland, in order to maximize the amount of water exposed to the wetland's biofilm filter.
Abstract:
A containment unit for containing fluid leaks in an ambient liquid. The containment unit comprises a weighted base for being disposed around the fluid leak. The weighted base is positioned on top of one or more suction piles. Further, the containment unit comprises a curtain unit coupled to the weighted base. The curtain unit comprises a helical spring and facilitates containing the fluid leak in the ambient fluid. The containment unit further comprises a flotation unit coupled to the curtain unit. The containment unit also comprises thrust roller bearings to allow rotation of the curtain unit with respect to the weighted base and the flotation unit. The invention further discloses a containment system comprising multiple containment units as needed depending on the depth of ambient liquid and as a surface flotation unit comprising pumps, sensors and skimming units to allow for the fluid leaked to be transferred to a vessel.
