Abstract: A display device comprising a variable-wavelength light emitting diode (LED) is provided. The variable-wavelength LED comprises: an n-doped portion, a p-doped portion, and a light emitting region located between the n-doped portion and the p-doped portion. The light emitting region comprises a light-emitting layer which emits light at a peak emission wavelength under electrical bias thereacross. The variable-wavelength LED is configured to receive a power supply, and the peak emission wavelength of the LED is continuously controllable over an emission wavelength range of at least 40 nm by varying the power supply.

Abstract: A display device includes subpixels of a first, second, and third colors, scan lines, and column lines. The subpixels are arranged in an array of rows and columns, with each subpixel in a column being electrically connected to a same column line. Each subpixels in a column is configured for receiving electronic scan signals that control a light output from an emissive element of the subpixel from a scan line and from the column line connected to the subpixel. One or more line drivers provide the electronic scan signals, during a time period for rendering a frame, to subpixels in a first set of columns first to subpixels of the first color and then to the subpixels of the third color and to subpixels in a second set of columns first to subpixels of the third color and then to the subpixels of the first color.

Abstract: An electrophoretic medium comprises a fluid and first, second, third and fourth types of particles (W, Y, R, B) having four different colors. The first and third particles have charges of one polarity and the second and fourth particles charges of the opposite polarity; the first particles have a greater zeta potential or electrophoretic mobility than the third particles, and the second particles a greater zeta potential or electrophoretic mobility than the fourth particles. One particle is white (W), one non-white particle (B) is partially light-transmissive, and the remaining two non-white particles (R, Y) are light-reflective. A third light-reflective particle (G) may be added to create a five particle medium.

Abstract: A display device comprises a light emitting diode (LED) which includes a porous semiconductor material, wherein the device comprises a pixel comprising a plurality of subpixels each having a light-emitting layer. A first subpixel has a first light-emitting layer having a first area A1, and a second subpixel has a second light-emitting layer having a second area A2 different from the first area A1. The first subpixel is configured to emit at a first peak wavelength, and the second subpixel is configured to emit at a second peak wavelength different from the first peak wavelength. A method of controlling this display device and a method of manufacturing said display device are also provided.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to driving first light emitting diodes (LEDs) of a first color to emit light during first subframes of emission frames, driving second LEDs of a second color to emit light during second subframes of emission frames, and driving third LEDs of a third color to emit light during the second subframes of emission frames. Light emitted from the first, second, and third LEDs is directed onto a mirror that reflects the light onto a plurality of pixel locations of an image field. The first, second, and third LEDs are aligned on an array of LEDs such that the first LEDs are at a first distance away from the second LEDs, and the first LEDs are at a second distance away from the third LEDs.
