Abstract: Methods, devices and stream are disclosed to encode and decode a volumetric content. At the encoding, the space of the volumetric content is divided in distinct sectors according to at least two different sectorizations. One atlas is generated for each sectorization or a single atlas is generated encoding all the sectorizations. At the decoding, a sectorization is selected according to the current direction and field of view, according to user's gaze navigation and according to prediction of the upcoming pose of the virtual camera controlled by the user. Sectors are selected according the selected sectorization and the current direction and field of view and only patches encoded in regions of the atlas associated with these sectors are accessed to generate the viewport image representative of the content seen from the current point of view.

Abstract: A method for packing a frame of immersive or omnidirectional content may include: determining one or more head motion statistics for rendering and packing immersive or omnidirectional content; determining a classification of a head motion based, at least partially, on the one or more determined head motion statistics; determining resolution(s) and/or a packing scheme based on determined viewport change rate, extent, change prediction/frequency, etc., as summarized by FIG. 6. If there is little or no head motion, the majority of a frame may be packed with high quality and resolution content of the viewport. If there is a greater amount of head motion, a smaller portion of the frame may be packed with high quality and resolution content of the viewport, and medium/low resolution content may be included with the frame that is associated with non-viewport content.

Abstract: A multi-view image stream encoded with primary and secondary image is accessed. Each primary image stream comprises groups of pictures (GOPs). Each secondary image stream comprises I-frames generated from a corresponding primary image stream. Viewpoint data collected in real time is received from a recipient decoding device to indicate that the viewer's viewpoint has changed from a specific time point. A camera is selected based on the viewer's changed viewpoint. It is determined whether the specific time point corresponds to a non-I-frame in a GOP of a primary image stream of the selected camera. If so, an I-frame from a secondary image stream corresponding to the primary image stream is transmitted to the recipient decoding device.

The renderer (605) comprises a first circuit (607) arranged to generate first image data for the output image by projection of captured video data to the viewing pose and second circuit (609) arranged to determine second image data for a first region of the output image in response to the three-dimensional mesh model. A third circuit (611) generates the output image to include at least some of the first image data and to include the second image data for the first region. A fourth circuit (613) determines the first region based on a deviation of the viewing pose relative to the capture pose region.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product provide for signaling of viewport orientation timing, such as in panoramic video delivery. In the context of a method, the method receives a first stream comprising panoramic video content based on a first viewport orientation. The method generates a feedback message comprising one or more updated parameters of a second viewport orientation and causes transmission of the feedback message. The method also receives a second stream comprising panoramic video content based on the second viewport orientation of the client device. The method further comprises determining a motion to high-quality delay value based on timestamps associated with the first and second streams and causing transmission of the motion to high-quality delay value.
