摘要: A noise reduction circuit useful as a clock restoration circuit includes a DC removal circuit (67) for removing a DC level from an input pulse train. An integrator (54) integrates the input pulse train after a DC level has been removed and a comparator (59) compares the integrator output with a threshold value (Vmp) to detect for a missing pulse. A pulse generator (65) inserts into the input pulse train an additional pulse delayed with respect to any missing pulse and an output pulse train having reduced noise is derived from the integrator output.

摘要: Speech for transmission over a low bit rate channel of a telecommunications link is digitally sampled and subjected to linear predictive coding in a coder (6). The LPC residual signal is passed through a weighting filter (18) and the output down sampled by decimation factor d resulting in d sequences of which the maximum energy sequence is selected for vector quantization. The data output from the vector quantizer (22) is formed into an output frame together with an index ( s ) identifying the selected decimation sequence and the quantized LPC parameters. The frame transmitted over the telecommunications link (46) is decoded by means of an inverse vector quantizer (50) which restores the decimated sequence. An interpolator (52) interpolates zeros to restore an excitation signal for an LPC synthesis filter (54) from which the voice signal can be reconstructed.

摘要: Apparatus for the control of particulate material flow without the need for moving parts or external components comprises a duct through which said material is to flow having positioned in the lumen thereof an upstream electrode (2) and a downstream electrode (3) for establishing an electric field in the path (F) of flowing material, the structure of the downstream electrode (3) being of greater complexity than that of the upstream electrode (22), the inner surface of the duct (1) defining the lumen in the region of the electrodes being substantially dielectric in character, and the geometry and arrangement of the electrodes being such that (a) particle flow past the downstream electrode (3) may be impeded upon application of the electric field, and (b) flow past the upstream electrode (2) is not disturbed significantly by the upstream electrode (2) so as to avoid transformation of dense phase flow to lean phase flow, thereby maintaining interparticle and particle-electrode contact.

摘要: A structural connection between a tubular thermosetting plastics member (6) and a thermoplastics end cap (8) is described. An end of the tubular member is inserted into an annular, axially extending gap (18) in the thermoplastics end cap (8). The inner and outer wall surfaces of the gap (18) are threaded. Adhesive fills the space between the end of the tubular member and the threaded surfaces of the gap.
