摘要: A fiberizing apparatus for converting molten material into continuous fibers having an improved internal support structure to minimize high temperature creep and sagging of the tip plate or orifice plate is disclosed. The preferred internal support structure is welded to the sidewalls and the top surface of the tip plate and is comprised of a plurality of internal intersecting supports that form a diamond shaped structure. A method of fiberizing a molten material using the fiberizing apparatus is also disclosed.

摘要: A nonwoven fabric constituted of high-flatness glass fibers whose cross sections have aspect ratios of 2.0 to 10 and rates of filling of 85 % or above, preferably 90 % or above. Such glass fibers have nearly rectangular cross sections and therefore can be arranged in an extremely dense state to give a nonwoven fabric which is extremely thin and has a high bulk density. The fabric can give laminates which are enhanced in the glass fiber content and improved in the surface smoothness, thus being suitably usable as the reinforcement for printed wiring boards. The glass fibers can be produced by the use of, e.g., a nozzle equipped with a tip which has a flat orifice and whose major-axis wall is partially cut out on one side.

摘要: A fiber manufacturing apparatus (10) including a spinner (12), mounted on one end of a rotatable shaft (14), and a source supplying two streams of at least one molten thermoplastic material (78, 80) to the spinner. The spinner includes a radial extension (100), a radial wall (16), and an outer peripheral wall (18). The radial extension is mounted to and extends radially out from the shaft. The radial wall is mounted to and extends radially out from the radial extension. The radial wall includes an upper surface (35), a lower surface (37), and an outer periphery. The periphery wall is disposed around the outer periphery of the radial wall and has a plurality of orifices (20) for centrifuging fibers from at least one molten thermoplastic material. During the operation of the spinner, the radial extension directs one stream (78) of molten thermoplastic material through at least one flow hole (36) to the lower surface of the radial wall and to orifices of the peripheral wall. As the spinner rotates, another stream of molten thermoplastic material (80) is deposited directly onto the upper surface of the radial wall and travels along the upper surface to orifices of the peripheral wall. The spinner is radially balanced during the centrifuging operation and is less susceptible to thermal stress induced cracking.

摘要: A method and a device are disclosed for manufacturing mineral fibres, in particular endless fibres, from rock, vitreous industrial waste, industrial glass waste. The problem is to design a method by which these initial materials from a stable melt can be processed into fibres, in particular endless fibres, of improved fibre quality and processing characteristics. The initial products are melted down in a melter, transferred to a feed duct, fed to a reservoir unit and then to a nozzle unit from which it is drawn off as a thread. The melt is fed to the reservoir unit from a melt discharge region in which the melt has the claimed parameters of temperature, processing range, viscosity, viscosity/surface tension quotient and viscous flow activation energy. The ratio of the height of the melt in the feed duct to the height of the melt in the melter lies in a defined range.

摘要: An apparatus (10) is provided for supplying streams of molten glass to be drawn into continuous glass fibers. The apparatus comprises a receptacle (22), a feeding device (30), a heating device (24) and a plurality of bushings (50). The receptacle (22) is adapted to receive glass-forming batch materials (40) to be melted into molten glass material (42) such that a pool (42a) of molten glass material (42) is provided in the receptacle (22) below a layer (40a) of glass-forming batch materials (40). The receptacle (22) includes a plurality of openings (70) through which primary streams (42b) of molten glass material flow. The feeding device feeds the glass-forming batch materials to the receptacle. The heating device is associated with the receptacle and is adapted to generate heat to melt the glass-forming batch materials. The bushings are located adjacent to the receptacle such that each of the bushings receives one of the primary streams of molten glass material. The bushings include a plurality of nozzles (53) for supplying secondary streams of molten glass material to be drawn into continuous glass fibers.
