The subject invention pertains to materials and methods for transformed plants and plant tissues that are capable of expressing high levels of stable proteins which are localized as protein bodies within the plant cell. Transformed plants co-expressing high levels of both the 15kD and 10kD zein proteins are disclosed which accumulate to high levels as protein bodies in the vegetative tissue of the plant. Transformed plants co-expressing the 15kD and 10kD zein proteins are useful for providing forage crops containing increased levels of sulfur containing amino acids, such as methionine, in the diet of animals that normally feed on such crops. Also contemplated by the subject invention are transformed plants or plant tissue comprising stable protein bodies which contain heterologous proteinaceous material. In one embodiment, a stable protein body is expressed in a plant or plant tissue as a fusion protein comprising a zein protein and an operably linked protein or peptide. The protein bodies provided in the present invention are resistant to rumin digestion or environmental degradation.

Compositions and methods for preventing hematophagous infestation of cattle are provided, directed at isolated proteins with antithrombin activity and nucleotide sequences encoding the proteins. The proteins named thrombostasin is isolated from the salivary glands of Haematobia irritans. The compositions are useful as veterinary vaccines in prevention of blood-feeding in cattle by the infesting horn fly. The proteins of the invention are also useful in treatment of thrombosis.

The present invention relates to polynucleotide and polypeptide molecules for a disulfide core protein (Zdsc1). The polypeptides, and polynucleotides encoding them, are serine proteinase inhibitors. Also disclosed are expression vectors containing polynucleotides which encode a Zdsc1 polypeptide, antibodies which specifically bind to Zdsc1 polypeptides and anti-idiotypic antibodies which neutralize the antibodies which specifically bind to Zdsc1 polypeptides.

The present invention relates to a novel TFPI-3 protein which is a member of the tissue factor protease inhibitor family. In particular, isolated nucleic acid molecules are provided encoding human TFPI-3 proteins. TFPI-3 polypeptides are also provided as are vectors, host cells and recombinant methods for producing the same. The invention further relates to screening methods for identifying agonists and antagonists of TFPI-3 activity. Also provided are diagnostic methods for detecting hemostasis system-related disorders and therapeutic methods for treating hemostatis system-related disorders.

Fatty acid derivatives of sulfhydryl-containing compounds (for example, sulfhydryl-containing peptides or proteins) comprising fatty acid-conjugated products with a disulfide linkage are employed for delivery of the compounds to mammalian cells. This modification markedly increases the absorption of the compounds by mammalian cells relative to the rate of absorption of the unconjugated compounds, as well as prolonging blood and tissue retention of the compounds. Moreover, the disulfide linkage in the conjugate is quite labile in the cells and thus facilitates intracellular release of the intact compounds from the fatty acid moieties.

A method for preparing a monoclonal antibody which, when used in a monoclonal/polyclonal antibody sandwich immunoassay method for measuring an analyte which can exist in both free and binding protein complexed forms in a biological test sample, provides an equimolar response to the free and complexed forms of the analyte. The monoclonal antibody is selected to have the properties of (i) upon binding to the analyte, rendering the analyte substantially incapable of binding with antibodies that can bind the free form, but not the complexed form, of the analyte, and (ii) binding substantially equivalently with free and complexed analyte. The method is particularly useful in the measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in blood, serum or plasma.

Provided herein are metalloproteinase inhibitors and polynucleotides encoding such factors. In particular, provided herein are novel mammalian tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase (designated as type three, or "TIMP-3"), fragments, derivatives, and analogs thereof, polynucleotides encoding the same and methods of producing recombinant TIMP-3's. In a further aspect, pharmaceutical compositions and kits containing TIMP-3's and their use for treating disorders are provided herein. In yet another aspect, antibodies selectively binding TIMP-3's are provided.
