The present invention provides lubricant compositions for the powder metallurgical field. The lubricant compositions contain a solid phase lubricant such as graphite, molybdenum disulfide, and polytetrafluoroethylene in combination with a liquid phase lubricant that is a binder for the solid phase lubricant. The binder can be chosen from various classes of compounds including polyethylene glycols, polyethylene glycol esters, partial esters of C3-6 polyhydric alcohols, polyvinyl esters, and polyvinyl pyrrolidones. The binder is solubilized in an organic solvent.

An oily lubricant for mixing with the refrigerant 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (R134a) is an ester of viscosity 2-30 mm 2 /s at 100°C. Suitable classes of esters are (1) polyesters of a polyol and straight or branched chain carboxylic acid (CA), (2) diesters of neopentyl glycol and a C6-9 CA, (3) complex esters of partial esters of an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol with C3-C9 fatty acids and aliphatic or aromatic di-CA, (4) C16-22 diallyl esters of aliphatic di-CA, (5) C18-26 diethyl esters of aromatic di-CA, and (6) diesters of an addition product of an alkylene oxide to a monohydric alcohol by an aliphatic di-CA. The viscosity is adjusted by using mixture of esters or by adding a polymer; suitable viscosity for a refrigerator is 2-9 mm 2 /s and for a car air conditioner it is 7-30 mm 2 /s. The ester should be purified to have a low acid number of 0.1-0.5 mg KOH (g), to prevent metal corrosion, whilst keeping high insulating property, and it is purified so as to be stable and to have no more than 500 ppm of moisture. An anti-wear agent of the sulfur type is preferably added in amount of 0.01-5 w/t%, and other additives can be an antioxidant and corrosion inhibitors. The lubricant has excellent compatibility with R134a, low hygroscopicity, high thermal stability and lubricating property.

A first refrigerator oil of the invention has a sodium and/or potassium concentration of 0.1 ppm or less, a low hydrolyzability and excellent insulation performance, and hence is useful as a composition for a refrigerator equipped with an enclosed compressor. A second refrigerator oil of the invention comprises mainly a carboxylic acid ester of pentaerythritol, wherein the carboxylic acid comprises a mixture of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid with a C6-C8 linear or branched fatty acid and the content of the trimethylhexanoic acid exceeds 50 mole % but does not exceed 90 mole %. This oil has a high viscosity and high electrical insulation properties required of refrigerator oils for large air-conditioning equipment and a household air conditioner, does not crystallize at low temperature, and is excellent in handleability.

The lubricant consists of at least one partial ester of a glycol with a fatty acid, e.g. ethylene glycol monolaurate, optionally mixed with a minor amount of a fatty acid such as stearic acid. This invention relates to a liquid composition comprising (A) at least one fluorine-containing hydrocarbon containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms, (B) an efficiency improving or wear reducing amount of an additive selected from the group consisting of at least one fatty amine, at least one fatty amide, at least one reaction product of at least one fatty carboxylic acylating agent and at least one amine selected from the group consisting of a polyamine, a hydroxy amine and a mixture thereof, and at least one mixture thereof, and (C) an effective amount of a lubricant selected from the group consisting of at least one carboxylic ester, at least one polyalkylene glycol, at least one polycarbonate, and at least one mixture thereof. The liquid compositions containing the fatty amine, the fatty amide, the reaction product of a fatty carboxylic acylating agent have improved efficiency and antiwear properties. These compositions provide effective protection against wear, especially aluminum on steel wear. The compositions help prevent formation of metal debris during compressor operations.
