Abstract:
A new immunoassay system is provided for the detection of ligands or ligand binding partners in solution in a heterogeneous format. The invention relies upon the detection of back scattered light from an evanescent wave disturbed by the presence of a colloidal gold label brought to the interface by an immunological reaction. The evanescent wave existing at the interface in turn is the result of a totally internally reflected incident light wave. Placement of the detector at a back angle above the critical angle insures a superior signal-to-noise ratio. Apparatus and methods for scanning, detecting and manipulating light including a scattered total internal reflectance immunoassay system are provided.
Abstract:
The use of a transdermal Raman spectrum to measure glucose or other substance concentration can give an inaccurate result if the Raman signals originate at a wrong skin depth. To predict whether a spectrum of Raman signals received transdermally in a confocal detector apparatus and having at least one component expected to have an intensity representing the concentration of glucose or another skin component at a point of origin of the Raman signals below the surface of the skin will accurately represent the concentration, peaks in the spectrum at 883/4 cm−1 and 894 cm−1 are measured to determine whether the Raman signals originate primarily within the stratum corneum so that the spectrum will be less likely to represent the concentration accurately or originate primarily below the stratum corneum so that the spectrum will be more likely to represent the concentration accurately.

A disposable photometric measurement tip comprising a polymer tip, the polymer tip having a capillary filling channel, the capillary filing channel having an opening at a distal end of the polymer tip, a wave guide channel acting as an optical input coupling and a wave guide channel acting as an optical output coupling, each of the wave guide channels having an opening at a proximal end of the polymer tip wherein the capillary filling channel, the wave guide channel acting as an optical input coupling and the wave guide channel acting as an optical output coupling are connected to each other.
Abstract:
An optical assembly is disclosed including two laterally variable bandpass optical filters stacked at a fixed distance from each other, so that the upstream filter functions as a spatial filter for the downstream filter. The lateral displacement may cause a suppression of the oblique beam when transmission passbands at impinging locations of the oblique beam onto the upstream and downstream filters do not overlap. A photodetector array may be disposed downstream of the downstream filter. The optical assembly may be coupled via a variety of optical conduits or optical fibers for spectroscopic measurements of a flowing sample.

A method and apparatus for field spectroscopic characterization of seafood is disclosed. A portable NIR spectrometer is connected to an analyzer configured for performing a multivariate analysis of reflection spectra to determine qualitatively the true identities or quantitatively the freshness of seafood samples.
