A simple manufacturing process for obtaining a carbon/carbon composite of superior performance is provided without using a carbon fiber fabric which is expensive and without going through the step of fixing fibers together using a binder. A precursor fiber for a carbon fiber which precursor fiber has been rendered infusible is subjected to uniaxial pressing at a temperature lower than the temperature adopted in the infusiblizing treatment, and then a carbonization treatment is performed. According to the present invention, a primary-pressed carbon material can be produced without using a binder, thus resulting in that not only the carbon material but also a carbon/carbon composite can be produced in a simple manner.

A novel ethylene/α-olefin copolymer superior in melt characteristics such as fluidity and exhibiting high impact resistance, mechanical strength, transparency and low-temperature heat sealability is provided. The novel copolymer is prepared by the copolymerization of ethylene and an α-olefin of 4 to 20 carbon atoms and satisfies the conditions of a melt index of 0.01 to 100, a density (d) of 0.880 to 0.940, an Mw/Mn ratio in the range of 2.0 to 15, an N value of 1.25 to 2.5, provided N value ≧ 1.32 log (Mw/Mn) + 0.86, a DSC melting point peak of 70° to 120°C and a branching degree, B, per 1,000 carbon atoms of -710d + 662 ≦ -725d + 686.

[OBJECT] The object of this invention is to provide a catalyst which is suitable for use in high-temperature steam reforming of hydrocarbons, exhibits less carbon precipitation when used and has high activity with a long catalytic service life. [CONSTITUTION] A catalyst for the steam reforming of hydrocarbons characterized in that 0.1-2 wt.% of ruthenium is carried on a carrier which comprises 5-40 wt.% of ceria or rare earth element oxides containing ceria as the main ingredient and 60-95 wt.% of alumina, and that an atomic ratio of cerium to ruthenium (Ce/Ru) in the catalyst is in the range of from more than 10 to 200.
