The sealant layer (28) of the lid is heat-sealed to the polypropylene-based coating on the metal end (16) to form a peelable seal. The method further encompasses the use of a standard can seamer and standard can closures to seal said extruded profile with food contained therein. The invention permits the extrusion and effective cooling and calibration of larger diameter and smaller thickness PET profiles or pipes in commercial quantities with effective control of quality and eccentricity of the profiles produced.

In one embodiment, the container (10) is made of a thermoplastic material comprising a plurality of superimposed layers, one of which is yieldable, so that when the flange is interfolded the yieldable material is forced outwardly to fill any voids that exist between the flange and closure to form a complete and flexible seal.
