Pressure applied to the top portion causes the flexible middle portion (82) to collapse in an orderly manner toward the bottom portion (80), with the middle portion (82) folding at each of the predetermined bend areas to create one or more folds or pleats in the middle portion in the collapsed configuration. The foldable stovetop container (70) may be used on residential stovetops for the heating and cooking of food.

In some embodiments, the sealant comprises ethylene vinyl acetate blended with a polyolefin. The polyolefin can comprise a polyethylene such as low-density polytheylene. The metal end (16) can have a spot-coated surface or an uncoated (i.e., bare metal) surface. A coating (30) of a polypropylene-based composition is provided on the metal end (16). The sealant layer (28) of the lid is heat-sealed to the polypropylene-based coating on the metal end (16) to form a peelable seal. The resulting seal allows the lid to be peeled off the metal end by detachment of the sealant layer from the polypropylene-based coating.

    摘要: A retort container includes a metal end applied and sealed to an all-thermoplastic container body by a crimp-seaming or double-seaming operation. The metal end has an outer curl joined to a chuck wall that extends down from the curl. One or both of the inner surface of the container side wall and the outer surface of the chuck wall has/have a heat-sealable material thereon. The metal end is crimp-seamed or double-seamed to the container body and the heat-sealable material(s) are heated to soften or melt such that the interface between the chuck wall and the side wall is fused. The interface is oriented along a direction relative to internal pressure exerted on the metal end such that stress on the interface caused by the internal pressure is predominantly shear stress.
