The device (10) comprises a radiation permeable cylindrical tube (12) having a concentric cylindrical rotor (14) disposed therein, thereby providing a thin gap (16) therebetween. A top plate (18) having a fluid outlet (26) and a bottom plate (20) having a fluid inlet (24) seal the cylindrical tube (12). The inlet (24) and outlet (26) are both in fluid communication with the thin gap (16). A rotor shaft (36) is diposed axially through the cylindrical rotor (14) and is connected to a motor (30). A pump provides fluid flow through the device (10). A radiation source provides sterilizing radiation to the fluid through the cylindrical tube (12). As the fluid flows, the motor (30) drives the rotor (14) to impart Taylor vortices to the fluid flow, which exchanges the fluid closer to the cylindrical tube (12) with the fluid closer to the rotor (14).

That is, the present invention provides a method for treatment of the water-containing material, comprising: (A) a step bringing a liquid of a substance that is in the gaseous state under normal temperature and pressure conditions into contact with a water-containing material; (B) a step obtaining a liquid layer through solid-liquid separation from a treated product resulting from the step (A); (C) a step vaporizing and extracting at least a portion of the substance that is in the gaseous state under normal temperature and pressure conditions as gas from the liquid layer obtained from the step (B); and (D) a step collecting a lower layer resulting from liquid-liquid separation conducting on a liquid layer resulting from the step (C). This invention provides a method to substantially mince the need for imaging rotated to placing an intravascular catheter or other device. Reduced imagine needs also reduce the amount of radiation that patients are subjected to, reduce the time required for the procedure, and decrease the cost of the procedure by reducing the time needed in the radiology department. An aspect of the invention includes, for example, an endovenous access and guidance system. The system comprises: an elongate flexible member adapted and configured to access the venous vasculature of a patient; a sensor disposed at a distal end of the elongate flexible member and configured to provide in vivo non-image based ultrasound information of the venous vasculature of the patient; a processor configured to receive and process in vivo non-image based ultrasound information of the venous vasculature of the patient provided by the sensor and to provide position information regarding the position of the distal end of the elongate flexible member within the venous vasculature of the patient; and an output device adapted to output the position information from the processor.
