An electrical connector assembly includes a shielding cage (4) having an upper wall (10), a lower wall (12), side walls (14, 16), a rear wall (18), and an intermediate wall (20) defining a plurality of module-receiving ports (8) arranged in an array of rows and columns. The lower wall and the intermediate wall form a communication opening (60) between the module-receiving ports in each said column. An electrical connector is disposed in each said communication opening. Each said electrical connector includes an insulative housing having a circuit board mounting face and a front mating face. The front mating face includes upper and lower card-receiving slots extending horizontally across the front mating face and positioned one above the other for alignment with respective upper and lower module-receiving ports in each said column.

Um eine Steckbuchse (1) für Telekommunikations- und Datenübertragungssysteme mit einem Gehäuse (2), das eine Stecköffnung (3) für einen Stecker aufweist, mit einer Vielzahl von Kontaktdrähten (4), die in die Stecköffnung (3) vorragen und die Anschlussenden (5) zur Kontaktierung mit einer Leiterplatte aufweisen, wobei die Kontaktdrähte (4) an einem Kontaktträger (6) gehalten sind, der in das Gehäuse (2) montierbar ist, zu schaffen, die einfach herzustellen und zu montieren ist, wird vorgeschlagen, dass der Kontaktträger (6) einstückig mit dem Gehäuse (2) ausgebildet und am Gehäuse (2) schwenkbeweglich gehalten ist, so dass er in eine Montagelage aus dem Gehäuse (2) heraus und in eine Gebrauchslage in das Gehäuse (2) einschwenkbar ist.

A fixed terminal (3) and a switch terminal (4) are held by the housing (2). The switch terminal (4) comprises a U-shaped section (35) opened toward the plug pin insertion hole (12) in the terminal accommodation chamber (6). The U-shaped section (35) is elastically deformable in a direction (Z) crossing the direction of plug pin insertion (X). The switch terminal (4) is switched from a state in which it is brought into contact with the fixed terminal (3) to a state in which the contact thereof with the fixed terminal (3) is cut off as the U-shaped section (35) is deformed in the direction (Z) crossing the direction of plug pin insertion (X).

The invention aims at improving an adapter for contacting smart cards, comprising in particular a PCMCIA standard connection of a data processing apparatus, such that the economic advantages of an increased integration of components can be used in the manufacture of printed circuit boards, to the extent of obtaining a simple and inexpensive manufacturing process ensuring economical mass production, in particular in view of a more and more widespread use of prescribed card systems. Therefor, the printed circuit board (9) has in the direction extending the reception channel (6) a shortened length, and includes a device (11), located on the side adjacent to the insertion slot (7) for positioning the printed circuit board (9) and guiding the smart card (2) in the reception channel (6).

An electrical connection of a transfer station (100) releasably, repeatably electrically couples with respect to a matching connection of a portable cartridge (40). A substrate (50) in the portable cartridge has electrical contacts (51) on a facing surface. In the transfer station, a matching circuitized flexible substrate (136) has electrical contacts (141) on a facing surface thereof, which are arranged to match the portable cartridge electrical contacts when in a face-to-face relationship. An elastomeric compression element (132), at the rear of the matching substrate, has individual protruding compression members contacting the rear surface and registered with corresponding individual electrical contacts. Elongated electrical contacts are registered with two adjacent individual compression members. A loader engages the portable cartridge, registering the cartridge substrate contacts in face-to-face relation with the matching flexible substrate electrical contacts, and exerting a normal force to the cartridge to compress the compression element and create non-wiping contact between the facing electrical contacts.
