An extremely ductile fiber reinforced brittle matrix composite is of great value to protective structures that may be subjected to dynamic and/or impact loading. Infrastructures such as homes, buildings, and bridges may experience such loads due to hurricane lifted objects, bombs, and other projectiles. Compared to normal concrete and fiber reinforced concrete, the invented composite has substantially improved tensile strain capacity with strain hardening behavior, several hundred times higher than that of conventional concrete and fiber reinforced concrete even when subjected to impact loading. The brittle matrix may be a hydraulic cement or an inorganic polymer. In an exemplary embodiment of the teachings, the composites are prepared by incorporating pozzolanic admixtures, lightweight filler, and fine aggregates in Engineered Cementitious Composite fresh mixture, to form the resulting mixtures, then placing the resulting mixtures into molds, and curing the resulting mixtures.

A method of treating a well, comprises pumping the composition into the well, allowing the cement to set, and treating the set cement so that it is partially to completely dissolved. In case of partial dissolution the residue in time is degradable. The inorganic fiber can be used in the traditional cementing in all stages of the well construction to defeat partial losses and improve the set properties of the final set cement.

By dissolving a vinyl alcohol polymer (A) and an incompatible vinyl polymer (B), preferably an acrylonitrile polymer in a common solvent to prepare a spinning stock solution of a phase separation structure wherein the polymer (B) is present at particle sizes of 2 to 50 µm, and wet spinning or dry-wet spinning the resulting spinning stock solution in a solidifying bath containing a mixture of an organic solvent capable of solidifying both the polymers (A) and (B) and the solvent of the spinning stock solution at a weight ratio of 25/75 to 85/15, thereby drawing the resulting yarn by 8-fold or more, a fiber is provided; and from the fiber can be produced a fibril with good hydrophilicity, a higher strength, and excellent heat fusion resistance, along with excellent wiping performance, filtering performance, micro-particle capturing properties and reinforcing performance, readily, stably and inexpensively.

The concrete tile includes a tile body 2 having a cut end face 1 in at least one side thereof. The cut end face 1 has a rough-surface shape on a cut surface thereof formed during manufacture of the tile. Alkali-resistant fibers comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl alcohol-based fibers, polyethylene fibers, polypropylene fibers, acrylic fibers, and aramid fibers are dispersed in the entire thickness of the tile body in a state substantially free of a fiber-containing granular body. Flexural strength of a cut piece of 30 mm × 150 mm is not less than 6 N/mm 2 .

An extrudable cement-based material formed from a mixture that includes cement, water, gypsum, secondary materials, reinforcement fibers and rheology modifying agent. The extrudable cement-based material is a lightweight material that has a density in the range of about 1.4 to 2.4 g/cm3, a compressive strength in the range of about 5 to 100 MPa, and a flexural strength in the range of about 5 to 35 MPa. Note that the cement may contain gypsum such that the gypsum is not added to the mixture.
