A gypsum board comprises a set gypsum layer having a first face and a second face. A fibrous mat is affixed to at least one of the faces. The mat comprises a non-woven web bonded together with a resinous binder. The web comprises a blend of a major portion composed of chopped continuous glass fibers having an average fiber diameter ranging from about 8 to 17 μm and a minor portion composed of fine staple fibers having an average fiber diameter of less than about 5.5 μm, the minor portion comprising about 1-30 percent of the dry weight of the web. The board is exceedingly durable. It has a smooth surface that is readily finished in an aesthetically pleasing way, using paint or other wall covering systems.

The present invention relates to primer compositions in powder form that comprise a dispersion powder based on an acrylate polymer having a glass transition temperature in the range from −50° C. to +30° C. and cement. The compositions of the invention are notable for good water barrier effect, good dust-binding capacity, and a low tendency toward salt efflorescence. The encompositions find use in the priming of masonry, concrete, rendered surfaces, abraded render, plaster surfaces, wall blocks, wood, and ceramic tiles. They can also be used as adhesion promoters with nonabsorbent substrates such as glazed ceramic or glass tiles, metal surfaces, or surfaces of plastic.

The present invention relates to a fiber-reinforced cement based or cementitious material, and process for making, where the reinforcing fiber is a chemically treated cellulose or non-cellulose fiber. The fiber reinforced cementitious material includes (I) cement, (ii) optionally, sand, aggregate, or sand and aggregate, and (iii) chemically treated fibers having a polyvalent cation content of from about 0.1 weight percent to about 5.0 weight percent based on the dry weight of the treated fibers. The present invention further provides for a fiber reinforced cementitious material having a weak acid content of from about 0.5 weight percent to about 10 weight percent based on the dry weight of the treated fibers.

The present invention provides a coating composition, a method of coating a substrate, and a coated substrate, (e.g., a coated cemented fiberboard article). In preferred embodiments the coating composition includes one or more latex polymers and an aliphatic epoxy resin system. The coating composition can include one or more coating compositions that may be applied in one or more layers. A coated article comprising a cement fiberboard substrate and a coating system applied to the substrate is also provided. The article includes a first coating system applied to the substrate, wherein the first coating system includes an aliphatic epoxy resin system having an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles, optionally a silicate additive, and optionally one or more olefinic compounds and initiator for same. The first coating system preferably includes one or more coating compositions that may be applied in one or more layers. In a preferred embodiment, the first coating system is applied to all the surfaces of the substrate (e.g., the front side, back side and edges of a board). The coated substrate may then be coated with other optional coatings, e.g., decorative or protective topcoats.

The present invention relates to coated fiber cement products as well as to methods for manufacturing such products. In particular, the present invention provides processes for manufacturing coated fiber cement products, these processes comprising the steps of: (i) providing a cured fiber cement product having at least one surface; (ii) applying a primer to the at least one surface of the cured fiber cement product; (iii) providing at least one layer of a radiation curable composition to the at least one surface, which radiation curable composition comprises at least one pigment; and (iv) curing the layer of radiation curable composition by radiation. Finally, the present invention provides coated fiber cement products obtainable by such processes and uses of these fiber cement products as building materials. In particular embodiments, the coated fiber cement products produced by the processes of the present invention can be used to provide an outer surface to walls, both internal as well as external, a building or construction, e.g. as façade plate, siding, roofing element, etc. such as for instance a slate.

The present invention relates hydrophobized fiber cement products and methods for the production thereof as well as uses of such products, in particular in the building industry. In particular, the present invention provides hydrophobized fiber cement product, comprising a fiber cementitious matrix and a hydrophobizing agent uniformly dispersed therein, wherein said hydrophobizing agent comprises at least one hydrophobic silicone resin. The present invention further provides porcesses for producing a hydrophobized fiber cement product with enhanced water impermeability, wherein said process comprises at least the steps of: a) admixing an inorganic curable cementitious matrix with a hydrophobizing agent to form a curable mixture, wherein said hydrophobizing agent comprises at least one hydrophobic silicone resin, b) transforming the curable mixture into a shaped body; and c) curing the curable mixture to form a uniformly hydrophobized fiber cement product.
