    摘要: The invention provides an accumulator type fuel injector system (10) for an i.c. engine comprising an accumulator chamber (12) for containing fuel to be injected via an injector assembly (14). The accumulator chamber (12) is charged with fuel at an elevated pressure via a non-return valve (16) means under control of a solenoid valve means (20) also controlling the injector assembly (14). The arrangement is such that, when the accumulator chamber (12) is being vented via the injector assembly (14), means (30) associated with the chamber (12) subject it to additional venting when the pressure in said chamber (12) has decayed to a predetermined level. Thus, closure of a needle valve (24) and consequently termination of a fuel injection event is determined by fuel pressure which can be varied rather than constructional features of the injector.

The spill control valve (42) is controlled by the pressure of fuel in a pressure chamber (48), and the pressure of the pressure chamber (48) is controlled by the piezoelectric element (47). When the piezoelectric element (47) is driven, the pressure of the pressure chamber (48) is increased, and thus the spill control valve (42) is closed. When the engine speed is high, the piezoelectric element is driven at each 360 degrees of rotation of the crankshaft. Conversely, when the engine speed is low, the piezoelectric element is driven at each 120 degrees rotation of the crankshaft.

    摘要: A high-pressure, continuous-delivery piston pump (4), con­trolled as a function of engine speed and load, supplies fuel to an accumulator (6) supplying injectors (2). On the intake side of the pump (4), there is provided a throttle (18) for metering the amount of fuel supplied by the pump (4). Via operating signals, the throttle (18) is regulated by an electronic control device (9) in such a manner as to supply the pump (4) and pressurize only the amount of fuel strictly required for operating the injectors (2) and the engine (1), thus eliminating any energy losses caused by fuel feedback to the tank (3), and drastically reducing fuel consumption.
