    摘要: The invention relates to a coupling agent to provide the coupling of a metal element to a vulcanizable elastomeric material whereby the coupling agent provides both binding to the metal element and reaction with the vulcanizable elastomeric material. The coupling agent comprises a macromolecular backbone and at least one functional endgroup. The functional endgroup is responsible for the binding to the metal element. The backbone has amolecular weight ranging between 1000 and 10000 and has at least one unsaturated carbon-carbon bond for reacting with the vulcanizable elastomeric material. The invention further relates to an article comprising a metal element at least partially embeddedin a vulcanizable elastomeric material and comprising a coupling agent to provide the coupling of the metal element to the the vulcanizable elastomeric material.

    摘要: Adhesion of rubber to a variety of metals (aluminum, stainless steel, mild steel and brass) is effectively achieved by the application of an organofunctional silane (I) and a non-organofunctional silane (II) to the requisite surface. Preferably, the organofunctional silane (I) is a vinyltrialkoxysilane with the non-organofunctional silane (II) preferably comprising an alkoxylated substituted alkyl silane. The silanes (I) and (II) are at least partially hydrolyzed and are normally provided in the form of a EtOH/H2O solution. Bonded joints formed by these adhesive treatments can withstand fuel degradation tests indicating that the treatments can be used, for example, to bond metal and rubber surfaces in automotive and other environments in which the joined parts will be contacted by fuels, oil and/or organic solvents.

    摘要: An adhesion promoting composition for enhancing adhesion between an elastomeric substrate and a metal surface which, when applied at least in substantial contact with the metal surface, produces an elastomer-metal adhesive bond that withstands high temperature fluid and corrosive material environments and that can be applied without extensive pretreatment of the metal surface. The adhesion promoting composition comprises a phenolic resin derived from a first phenolic component, a second phenolic component, and a formaldehyde source, wherein the first phenolic component is a monohydroxy aromatic compound, a dihydroxy aromatic compound or a combination thereof, and the second phenolic component is a trihydroxy aromatic compound. A two-part adhesive composition containing a primer component and an overcoat component is also disclosed. The primer component contains the adhesion promoting composition and a first halogenated polyolefin while the overcoat component contains a second halogenated polyolefin and a nitroso compound.
