Melt processed linear polyethylenes which may optionally contain an elastomer, are shown to exhibit improved processability through the addition of certain surfactants. Among the melt processing parameters improved are reduced head pressure, reduced torque, reduced motor load, reduced or eliminated melt fracture, or combinations of these parameters. The surfactants can be chosen from a non-aromatic sulfonate or sulfate salt wherein a cation of the salt is selected from the group consisting of Na, K, Li, and other alkali cations and quaternary ammonium cations, said surfactant being essentially free of halogens.

The lubricant contains at least 1.5 weight percent of a chlorine-containing dispersant that is a reaction product of a polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride and an organic amine, a multifunctional viscosity modifier and a detergent system that comprises a metal sulfonateand one or more metal salts of a phenolic organic acid selected from the group consisting of alkyl phenols, sulfurized alkyl phenols, and alkyl salicylic acids in an amount that provides at least 0.0025 gram equivalents of phenolic hydroxide. At least one of the metal salts is overbased and the detergent system includes not more than 0.008 gram equivalent % carbonate. The gram equivalent ratio of the total amount of phenolic hydroxide to the metal sulfonate is at least 1.4 to 1 while the gram equivalent ratio of all the organic metal salts to carbonate is at least 0.5 to 1. The lubricant contains no more than 50 ppm chlorine as determined by neutron activation analysis and no more than 1.2 wt. % sulphated ash as determined by ASTM D874.

A process is provided for the production of paraxylene by the methylation of toluene in the presence of a zeolite bound zeolite catalyst. The catalyst comprises first zeolite crystals which are bound together by second zeolite crystals. When used to methylate toluene to para-xylene, the zeolite bound zeolite catalyst has a para-xylene selectivity greater than thermodynamic equilibrium. This selectivity can be enhanced by selectivating the catalyst.

The invention comprises a hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin suitable as tackifier for acrylic adhesive polymers, having greater than 20% aromatic protons after hydrogenation, a z-average molecular weight of less than about 1800, a narrow molecular weight distribution, typically of less than or equal to 2.1, and a softening point of from 40 DEG C. to about 120 DEG C. It additionally comprises a method for preparing a hydrogenated aromatic tackifier resin suitable as tackifier for acrylic adhesive polymers comprising the steps of: a) polymerizing under Friedel-Crafts polymerization conditions stem-cracked petroleum distillates, or fractions thereof, having boiling points between about 135 DEG C. and 220 DEG C. and containing at least 40% of by weight vinyl aromatic monomer contents, in the presence of a chain transfer agent; and b) catalytically hydrogenating the results of a) such that at least 75% of the aromaticity is retained. The invention also comprises the use of this hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin as tackifier for an adhesive composition comprising one or more adhesive base polymers selected from acrylic copolymers, styrene block copolymers and ethylene-vinyl ester copolymers wherein improved adhesive properties are observed.

A fuel oil composition comprising a major proportion of a liquid hydrocarbon middle distillate fuel oil having a sulphur content of not greater than 0.2 % by weight of the fuel oil and a minor proportion of a hydroxy amine which improves the lubricity of the fuel oil. The inclusion of the hydroxy amine in the fuel also markedly reduces the foaming tendency of the fuel oil.

A method is provided for preparing organic hydroperoxides by oxidizing aryl alkyl hydrocarbons having a benzylic hydrogen with an oxygen containing gas using as a catalyst an oxo (hydroxo) bridged tetranuclear metal complex having a mixed metal core, one metal of the core being a divalent metal selected from Zn, Cu, Fe, Co, Ni, Mn or mixtures thereof and another metal being a trivalent metal selected from In, Fe, Mn, Ga, and Al. A method is also provided for the manufacture of the catalyst.
