The present invention relates to a disengageable interconnecting flooring system for use in forming a temporary or permanent flooring surface on top of a support structure from individual flooring panels. The system includes two or more flooring panels comprising a top wear surface and a bottom surface for contact with the support structure. The panels have at least three edges and all edges have recesses formed therein. The system further comprises a connector (1) having a base (2) and a projection (3,4,5) extending vertically from the base. The projection extending from the base is shaped to be received in a disengageable vertical connected fashion into the recesses of the panels. Preferably the connector (1) is comprised of a base (2) having a projection (3,4,5) extending the entire length thereof. In a preferred embodiment, the connector (1) and panels further comprise means for connecting the panels in a disengageable horizontal fashion.

A thermoplastic film that may be used in making an end product, such as a high pressure decorative laminate is disclosed. The film may be formed of either a copolymer of styrene and an unsaturated monomer, and an additive, or a polyolefin polymer having polypolar functionality, and a cross-linking agent reactable with the polyolefin polymer. A colorant may also be provided to the film, if desired. The thermoplastic film may be utilized as a decorative layer or as a water resistant layer in an end product, such as a laminate.

This polyvinyl acetate emulsion based adhesive is formulated with tackified polyvinyl alcohol, starch, a tackifier and a coupling agent. Stress cracking is substantially eliminated. Additionally, wrinkling and edge and corner peel resulting during the movement of sheets of melamine resin treated paper on the top and bottom surfaces of sheets of particle board through a heating and pressing zone is substantially eliminated.

A system and method for providing a substantially permanent joint between pieces of laminated material wherein the seam between the laminated material is water resistant is disclosed. A preferred embodiment of the present invention utilizes a non-waterbased adhesive, such as a urethane adhesive, in order to provide a seam substantially impermeable to moisture. Preferably the adhesive utilized expands when cured in order to completely fill the seam area and thus prevent infiltration.
