A system and method for molding the shell of a medical device or other molded article is disclosed. The system includes a multi-axis rotational molding machine (50) in which a mold (100) is mounted. The mold (100) has a cavity (60) in the shape of the article to be molded. The mold (100) seals to hold a vacuum. In operation, silicone or other molding material is inserted into the mold (100), vacuum is applied to the mold (100), the mold (100) is rotated about at least two axes (A, B) and a molding material coats the inside walls of the mold (100) to form the shell or other desired article. A rotationally molded medical article is also disclosed.

The present invention pertains to the development of Extracellular Matrix (ECM) scaffolds derived from the forestomach of a ruminant. Such scaffolds are useful in many clinical and therapeutic applications, including wound repair, tissue regeneration, and breast reconstruction. In addition, the present invention features methods of isolating ECM scaffolds from mammalian organs, including but not limited to the ruminant forestomach. The invention further features laminated ECM scaffolds containing a polymer positioned between individual ECM sheets. The polymer may optionally contain bioactive molecules to enhance the functionality of the scaffold.

A barb (4), or other leakproof fill tube connection, couples to the fill tubing (6) and a fill tip (16) couples to the implant (9). The barb (4) and the fill tip (16) each have a passage therethrough, and each of these passages have an axis. A joint connects the barb (4) to the fill tip (16) so that the barb (4) may rotate from a position where the barb axis is approximately parallel to the fill tip axis to a position where the barb axis is approximately perpendicular to the fill tip axis. Another form of the disclosed connector includes a joint that connects the barb (4) to the fill tip (16) so that the barb (4) may rotate approximately 360 degrees about the fill tip axis.

A variable cohesive gel form stabilizing implant is disclosed for augmentation or reconstruction of the breast. The prosthesis of this invention comprises an implantable shell or envelope (not limited to a single shell or envelope), filled with a biocompatible gel, or gels, having alterations in gel cohesiveness to maintain stable form, shape, and dimension after surgical implantation. The gel cohesiveness may increase, with increased volume or dimension of the prosthesis. The variable cohesiveness of the gel filler material may be altered by any means (i.e. chemical, fabrication, etc.). The variable cohesive gel form stabilizing implant has shape retention characteristics to maintain its form, thereby reducing or eliminating the undesirable effects of shell wrinkling, knuckling, scalloping or deformation, which can occur at the upper or lower pole of the prostheses, along the perimeter of the shell or at the base, post-implantation. Finally, the variable cohesive gel form stabilizing implant provides new control and possibilities for achieving and preserving the most natural breast shape.

A breast implant system is provided comprising a plurality of chambers including one or more first fluid chambers (1 ) and one or more second fluid chambers (2). The first fluid chamber (1 ) forms part of a breast implant (10), whereas the second fluid chamber (2) may also form part of the breast implant or may be implanted remote from the breast implant. The first and second fluid chambers are interconnected so as to allow exchange of fluid between the first and second chambers, thereby causing the shape and, depending upon the specific embodiment, also the volume to change accordingly.
