Verfahren und Vorrichtung zum Laserfügen von Kunststoffen oder Kunststoffen mit anderen Materialien, die durch Andrücken in Kontakt miteinander gebracht werden, wobei das der Strahlenquelle nächstliegende Werkstück für die Strahlen weitgehend transparent und das zweite Werkstück möglichst absorbierend ist. Durch Erzeugung einer linienförmig geformten Laserstrahl auf der Kontaktfläche zwischen den Werkstücken und einer Relativbewegung des Laserstrahls zu den Werkstücken, die entsprechend der gewünschten Fügenahtstruktur ausgebildet ist, werden die Werkstücke präzise nur in den gewünschten Fügebereichen miteinander verbunden. Dies ermöglicht eine hochpräzise Verbindung bei kleinsten Fügenahtabständen, so daß u.a. auch Teile für die Mikrosystemtechnik mit kurzer Taktzeit hergestellt werden können.

A system for staking a haptic to an optic to form an intraocular lens using a laser beam operating near the infrared range with a coaxial aiming laser beam operating in the visible range. A portion of the haptic is inserted into the optic through a radial bore and is exposed through an axial bore spanning from the optic upper surface to the radial bore. The coaxial laser beams are collimated and then focused using a microscope objective through the axial bores, onto the exposed haptic. Aiming of the coaxial beams onto the optic and haptic is aided by the use of a magnifying CCD camera. The coaxial lasers, which are typically focused to a minor diameter which is greater than or equal to the inner diameter of the axial bore, make contact with the exposed haptic. Consequently, the haptic is melted and is then allowed to cool, coalescing into a bead staking the haptic to the optic.

The present invention relates to alternative methods of joining a solid part (1) and a polymer (2). The methods comprise attaching a primer layer (4) with a predetermined surface chemistry, density and thickness covalently to at least a part of a surface (3) of the solid part (1). Some embodiments of the invention further comprise polymerizing second molecules onto the primer layer (4) so that the surface (3) is at least partly covered with surface immobilized polymer brushes (8). The surface (3) of the solid part (1) is brought into contact with the polymer (2) and a predetermined temperature profile is applied resulting in covalent bonds (6) being established between the polymer (2) and the primer (4), and/or polymer brushes (8) melting or softening and entangling with melted or softened polymer (2) so that the solid part (1) and the polymer (2) remain joined after cooling. The obtained strength of the bonding between the solid part (1) and the polymer (2) is significantly higher than if the same materials are joined with conventional methods not comprising the establishment of a primer layer (4).

The container sealing apparatus comprises: a rotating spindle (24); a rotating turret means (38) disposed around the rotating spindle and having a plurality of pockets (40) along a circular transport path; a plurality of container support means (42) which are arranged below the rotating turret means (38) in correspondence with the plurality of pockets (40), and can rotate about the rotating spindle and rotate on their axes; a plurality of lid pressing means (44) which are arranged above the rotating turret means (38) in correspondence with the container support means (42), can rotate about the rotating spindle and rotate on their axes, and can ascend and descend relative to the container support means; and a plurality of laser irradiation means (46) capable of rotating about the rotating spindle and adapted to throw laser light toward the container (2), against which the lid (14) has been pressed by the container support means (42) and the lid pressing means (44), thereby heat welding the lid (14) to the container (2).
